I’m only blogging this because it moved me to tears and instantly converted me to being a huge elephant guy. So in that sentiment, I’m compelled to offer the same emotional connectivity to our fellow mammal.
Turns out elephants have insane memories and nervous systems and a bunch of advanced emotions that are hard for humans to understand. Or something like that. I just know they remember hunters and are smart enough to track them down and kill them. Or something like that.
Really just a special beast and it bothers me people kill them.
I’ve become such a pussy for animals since moving to the country. I know you’re supposed to murder raccoons but I like hanging out with them at night.
And I know you’re supposed to kill mice but I trap and release in a neighboring Kane County forest preserve because I cannot be moved to harm such innocent little guys.
There’s nothing you can say or do that will make me want to kill almost any animal.
Even so – I don’t hate people who hunt for purpose. Feral hogs or fresh venison meat have their place.
But to Safari out to Africa to shoot a Rhino at point blank seems tasteless to me.
Same thing goes for Zebra, Elk and a majority of exotic land mammals.
Again there’s exceptions to every rule, but this applies for just bout every animal since I moved to the country and immersed myself in nature. I’ve become strangely and closely bonded with those around me and there’s no shaking it.
Next step is goats and chickens this summer. Chickens for the eggs and goats for the companionship and overall landscaping efforts. I’ll start with 3 and they’ll be named Bilbo, Frodo and Samwise in that order. It’s going to be so awesome – you guys just wait and see.
Until then I just wanted to share this elephant video because it warmed me up and that’s a good thing.
Elephants rock.
