Viriginia McCaskey Belongs In Prison For Giving Ryan Poles A Contract Extension

The Bears are expected to extend general manager Ryan Poles’ contract for three more years, in order to align it with the contract signed by new head coach Ben Johnson, according to a feature story this week by ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin.

ohnson signed a five-year contract, Cronin reports, a typical length for first-time head coaches. Cronin also reported that, according to a team source, Poles’ current deal runs through the 2026 season.

So a contract extension that would align him with Johnson would take Poles through the 2029 season, or three more years on top of his current deal, based on the team source in Cronin’s report.

I’m not trying to big dick anyone here with sources and insight and all that bullshit. But at the same time, this isn’t my first rodeo around Chicago Sports and I’m certainly no jabroni when it comes to established precedent. So with that in mind, let me clearly state that there’s no such thing as a source close to the Chicago Bears. That source’s name is George McCaskey and he’s a wet blanket not saying shit to the media. Obviously neither is his mother nor anyone carrying that last name or DNA genome.

I mean it. There’s no validity to any anonymous report that will ever come from Halas Hall. Like quite literally not one meaningful leak or sentiment or anything. It’s like Fort Knox except they’re protecting overwhelmingly below average organizational decisions. No gold and certainly no comments on Ryan Poles’s contract extension so let me clearly say that Courtney Cronin can shove her report up my butcher’3s ass.

Or is it the bull? I can’t remember.

My point is that you can’t trust any sourced report around the Bears that isn’t directly/immediately confirmed by Halas Hall. Nobody knows anything which means anyone can pretend to know everything. If you’ve followed the Bears seriously for any amount of time then you know this as no surprise.

Even so.

Let’s pretend for a second the Bears are actually extending Ryan Poles for the duration of Ben Johnson’s contract. Let’s just pretend this is true and the reporting is tight.

First off, it’s a correction to nearly decades of misaligning Quarterbacks-Head Coaches-GM’s. The Bears haven’t been in sync on that since before I could cum and now you’re lining up Caleb/Ben/Poles. If that’s the primary motivation then I suppose that would be okay because it’s honestly embarrassing that we’re still playing ring around the fuckin rosey on NFL’s Holy Trinity of good football.

Second, Ryan Poles has already shown his ass as a bad GM. So even if we’re lining up the QB/GM/Head Coach appropriately, I think we’re doing it with the wrong GM.

Personally I hate this guy because I think he relies on his playing experience to evaluate character vs. using his character to evaluate men. That’s a little confusing so I’d further clarify that I think Ryan Poles is kind of a big pussy. I think he’s in career survival mode and is trying to prove to himself that he’s good enough for the job vs. competing against the NFL. Like I sincerely believe that Ryan Poles does not have the confidence in himself to make high-pressured decisions. He has failed miserably to start his tenure and it seems bizarre to think he’s going to turn that around after compiling such a pathetic roster in 2024.

There’s so many morons in Chicago and quite literally every single one of us would tell you to get a better offensive line. Not once in the history of the Chicago Bears have we ever been a 3rd receiver away from achieving greatness yet here we are giving Keenan Allen a playbook at 32 years old. That’s fucking crazy.

So is our soft and weak and pathetic attitude.

Simply put, this past season was the saddest class of football I’ve watched in my entire life. Sure, there’s worse teams statistically, but no single group has elicited less pride in my 37 years. So to think that the architect behind this crisis is also (miraculously) the right guy to turn it around with Ben Johnson just really makes me want to puke out of both holes. I’m talking simultaneous butt and mouth puke. That’s how I feel about this.

And one step further, I think every Bears fan that’s excited about Ben Johnson should be committed to a mental institution. Or at least public shaming as dictated by your local municipality. And that’s because you’re a complete fucking embarrassment to Bears fandom to think Ben Johnson is the solution to SO MANY PROBLEMS. You think we’re a playcall away from being the laughing stock of the NFC/American Professional Sports? You think it’s a pump up talk and a power point that’s missing from the gameplan? You think we’re better off with the Lions 2nd best coach? Have you spent five seconds consuming Chicago Sports Media?

This city will break Ben Johnson as quickly as it embraced him. Ryan Poles will give him a below average offensive line and no depth on the front 7. We’ll complicate the draft because our leadership has no confidence. And I’m fairly certain that we’ll spend the offseason building our identity while the rest of the division simply improves its foundation. And that my friends is where this all falls apart for me. It’s the same thing every couple years just with different names and quarterbacks.

So in that spirit, I think we should hire another 2-3 GM’s and make them compete against each other for the job just like Wide Receiver and Running Back. Make a group of guys come up with mock trades and work the phones and present your solutions to leadership and then we pick a GM before the draft to be our starter. But then we have backups and competitions to keep the starting GM sharp and make sure he’s prepared on a week-to-week basis. I feel like that’s the smartest path forward: competition at all fronts instead of multi-year cupcake extensions for guys that haven’t accomplished a fucking thing.

Has anyone done that before? I don’t think so and quite frankly I don’t care.

All I want is competitive football and something tells me Ryan Poles is the complete opposite of the initiative. As such, I want him fired and those responsible for employing him should face federal prison time. If you think otherwise, then you suck and I hate you.

PS – Bring back the honey bears
