Happy Thursday fellas and let’s make it a good one.
As well established in our first week here on CarlsBlogs.com, we’re starting every day with an NPR Tiny Desk concert. The 1st ever was Bobby Weird & The Wolf Bros. Then we did a real tight PHISH set with an appropriate amount of crowd play. And of course yesterday featured the power and majesty of Gary Clark Jr.
Today we’re back with Dave Matthews – easily the most significant musician of my lifetime and probably my #1 overall. It’s hard to say when you start talking about just One Favorite Musician – but history is on Dave’s side with me. It was my first concert. First band I loved. First catalogue of songs you memorize. First music I remember chasing and the the first guy to get me mad at other people’s opinions. And yes it still bothers me that I had to live through a phase of my adult life where people thought Maybe Dave kinda sucks?
He brings out some weirdo fans. And they can definitely make you want to vomit with their commitment. But deep down that’s because Dave is just so good and unique. The reason people get so weird about him is because his sound and style is irreplaceable. So it becomes it’s own weird culture complete with dick measuring and gate keeping.
Whatever. I never let it get that deep and you shouldn’t either.
For now just enjoy a solo set from one of the great rhythm guitar players of my life. An extremely unique vocalist that often functions as a 2nd instrument to his guitar playing and just an overall outstanding performer filled with passion and enthusiasm for the moment. It’s so infectious. Guy just really wants to put on a great show and that’s what we get here.
Classic Dave.
