Rest In Peace Virginia McCaskey

Holy Shit.

Virginia McCaskey dead at 102. Hopefully peacefully and surrounded by family. That’s most important.

Knee Jerk reaction as a diehard Bears fan is that there’s big implications lingering that we’ve talked about forever. Maybe the biggest story around the Bears in this city for the last 10 years notwithstanding shitty head coaching and poor quarterback play.

And in reflection, none of that really matters right now. Virginia was a sweet adorable lady that ran the Bears with social and civic integrity. For better or worse on the field, the Bears have people-first standards from the bottom up. It’s by far the best employee environment of the Chicago major sports teams and that’s because of the McCaskey family and specifically Virginia’s influence. Absolutely no doubt about that.

There’s an entire generation of people that will never forgive her for getting rid of the Honey Bears. Others (me) have argued that she belongs in prison for extending Ryan Poles. In-between, there’s plenty of things that probably/should’ve/could’ve gone better as evidenced by our unmitigated futility now and forever.

Let’s agree to punt on that in mourning. She was a nice lady and tough enough sit in the owners box in this hellhole for decades. On that alone, Virginia deserves a posthumous big beef.

Now let’s go out and win the division for her next year. There’s no better way to honor someone’s memory than bringing home a championship. We start by hanging the Virginia banner week 1 and never look back en route to 15 wins and a 1st round Bye. Who says no to that?
