Oduya? YOU BETCHA!
Legend.
Just an absolute legend and a perfect starting point here on Wednesday March 12th in our 3rd edition of Hockey Wake Ups.
And watching this back really solidifies my point that NHL Playoffs are the best postseason in the world and it’s really shocking I don’t like it more. So hopefully this year is different because I’m trying to be different. And hopefully this year I can enjoy the dance start to finish.
I think the sensible thing to do is pick an Eastern Conference team to follow so as not to disrupt the Western Conference alliances should the Blackhawks ever climb out of the basement cellar.
Chances are no but I’m no expert so don’t quote me. I just don’t think the Blackhawks have the leadership or the guts or the brains to turn it around. And most important is they have no incentive when you’re drawing crowds at the top of the league for the 15th year in a row.
Would you give a shit if you were the Blackhawks?
Me neither.
I still don’t particularly care for them that much compared to the rest of Chicago sports. But a lot of that goes back to the same complaints I have with the sport:
It’s too fast. I don’t know players. Most of them are Russian or Canadian anyways. I can’t pick up on strategy and I don’t know anything about the history or the tradition. And quite frankly, it’s a stressful experience.
Alas though it will be different this year. I promise.
In that spirit, here’s the bet of Doc Emrick – the voice of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup run and every other team’s Stanley Cup run for like 40 years. An all time legend and GOAT and whatever else anyone wants to say about being #1 all time at something. There’s literally no way to over-describe his legendary impact.
He’s got a PhD or something in linguistics. That’s what allows him to use so many different words. He’s basically Oxford educated with the deepest vocabulary in western professional sports. Or something like that. It’s a whole big thing about him being a super smarty pants.
They talk about his background and profile in this HBO Real Sports look at his career.
He’s truly a spectacular individual and certainly missed at all time on every national hockey broadcast.
God Bless Doc Emrick.
Seriously.
Some other programming notes for today:
- This is the 3rd day in CarlsBlogs.com public history and it feels good to see you guys again. I hope everyone is doing well
- We got good news from the Cubs yesterday about Matt Shaw going to Japan for Opening Day. That’s just 6 days away now
- I have like 4 loads of laundry I need to get started right this minute or else I won’t do it all today and we’ve officially entered PROBLEM STATUS of dirty laundry in the hamper. So wish me luck as I bite into that
- I want to go to Rustic Road Farm today which is a farm in a local rural community owned by a retired Lettuce Entertain You executive chef. Now he raises goats and chickens and makes just about the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life to the extent that I can’t explain how good it is because you won’t believe me. But it’s really good and I’m trying to put that on the list of errands.
- Obviously I have to stop and pick up another 25 pounds of beef today from the Meat Market. I’ll probably process that tonight if we’re being honest but I don’t want to make that commitment and then let myself down.
- I think I need to do an unofficial Bears Mock Draft Power Rankings to be updated weekly until the season starts
- I’m softer on The Players than I’d like day before first tee shot and that feels weird
- Champions League today and that’s a real big treat if you like good clean professional sports. I’m not trying to be a weirdo first thing in the morning here but you’re doing yourself a huge disservice to dismiss soccer summarily because it was a little gay when we grew up.
- It’s still a little gay and that’s plenty okay. Makes for some great passing.
Have a great day.
