Wake Up With One Of The Most Ridiculous Chicago Garages I Have Ever Seen

I take Chicago garages very seriously which is why I’m so comfortable saying this is one of my favorites. Especially with the recent addition that adds about 40% of square footage to create two distinct party spaces for Bears games. You have the primary couch room with the flatties and the memorabilia. That’s for the diehards that want full game audio with 10,000 watts on the subwoofer. And then in the room over, you got the girls serving up Swedish meatballs and nachos con queso in the pregame appetizer. That’s where you’re mingling in-between commercial breaks, getting a refill, throwing more summer sausage on the plate etc. It’s a place to get away and recharge after watching sloppy offensive line play and getting pissed off. It’s literally the perfect set up.

And with that, I want to acknowledge that garage season is starting up here in a couple weeks. So just keep an eye on a swivel for that to become more prevalent.

For me, that usually starts around the Masters and that’s because it’s around the first big weekend of yard work. So I’ll be clearing out the garage, reorganizing after winter and doing some general chores and tasks that pair nicely with a couple ice cold beers. Then just get the TV plugged in on a Saturday after lunch for some golf and that’s how you accidentally do 10 beers in a couple hours without even realizing it.

From there I like baseball on the radio in the garage a lot. Especially when it’s Pat Hughes calling an East Coast game and you don’t catch it til the 3rd inning but the game’s still tied at 0 by the time you get a chance to sit down and listen. Missing the start of a game but still catching it 0-0 is one of the most underrated quiet victories as a sports fan and that deserves more credit.

This year I’m excited to debut a hammock off my office patio. I’m going to platoon it pretty steady with an AM transistor for midweek 1:20 games in June & July. Apparently the front office nerds tell me this is an ideal match up for the hammock but I’ll have to report back from my own personal experience.

For now I just wanted to show you guys a nice garage to start the day and let you know that garage season is opening up. So hit your local facebook marketplace for a mini fridge or shitty kitchen table or basically whatever you need to round the space out. Budget at $150, provide your own transportation, and in no time you can have a functionally degenerative garage just like the notable men in my life.

Some other programming notes:

  • I really enjoyed yesterdays CBRUB – Chicago Bears Round Up Blog – and I think we’re going to do that twice a week: Mondays and Thursdays (or Fridays)
  • I’m trying to get a haircut today which might seem frivolous as a bald(ing) man but turns out it’s much different than you expect. There’s almost a higher level of scrutiny because you’re working with so much less canvas to paint if that makes sense. So I’m going to an old school barber shop in an Aurora mini mall where respect is the primary form of currency and most of the clientele is progressively bald. I will report back on the experience.
  • Cubs play Thursday night during the middle of Sweet 16 because Rob Manfred enjoys torturing me with unfavorable start times
  • That’s the 6th time I’ve complained about the Cubs’ start times on paper before the season starts. I’m trying to get to 15.
  • We’re starting to get some momentum on the programming side which is huge for the health and strength of the blog in the long-term
    • Wake up
    • 3 shots
    • CBRUB
    • Cubs News & Notes
    • MILFs
  • Feels good to see it come together one day at a time. So thank you to everyone who has showed up and been decent

Have a great day.

  1. Garage is legit, but seems to be missing a toilet. You can miss a lot of big plays having to go to the main house to take a leak.
