Nobody Freak Out But Cam Smith Won’t Stop Raking

I’m trying to get away from Cam Smith but every time I look up he’s hitting another home run or clearing the bases or tormenting Cubs fans in another cruel and unusual way. This time it’s yet another multi-RBI performance on the big league roster and this is before I even remember that Isaac Paredes is going to hit 35 homers this year.

Meanwhile we gave up Cody Bellinger for a salary dump that got used on nobody! Then we traded an already productive 3rd baseman to clear room for Matt Shaw after 35 AAA games. And we included Cam Smith in the deal so we could end up getting Kyle Tucker for 1 year and the right to lie to fans about a good faith contract extension.

Makes me upset before the domestic schedule even starts and the only think that will make it go away is good baseball.

Right now my math says 7-6 to start the season

  1. L – Zac Gallen deals to start the year
  2. W – Bounce back win where we look like the best team ever
  3. W – Scrappy Shota Imanaga game that’s very ugly and finishes like 3-1
  4. L – Devastating bullpen loss
  5. L – Blowout loss 1st game against Oakland
  6. W – Convincing comeback win
  7. L – Devastating bullpen loss
  8. W – Dominant Wrigley opening day win
  9. W – Dominant Wrigley Saturday day game win
  10. L – Devastating bullpen loss
  11. W – Seiya walk off win
  12. L – Seiya baserunning error late loss
  13. W – Day game blowout

I’m actually being optimistic too because the Cubs haven’t won a game since going to Japan. They’ve literally lost every exhibition, spring training, MLB, and more spring training games since leaving the United States and that makes me nervous. There’s no reason we need to be the guinea pigs so MLB can sell $40M worth of Shohei jerseys and expand their footprint internationally.

Do that – of course.

Just don’t do it at the expense of the Cubs health and wellness and expect me to be cool when you increase ticket prices.

And as I say that I’m starting to get really pissed off so let me circle back to Cam Smith and say that I think he’s going to strikeout way too much to make a difference this year. I’ve slept on it and figured even if he makes it to the big leagues, there’s no way he can consistently square up big league pitching after just 30 homers in 3 college seasons. He’s good but he’s not that good and that’s exactly why I need to calm the fuck down.

Everything’s going to be just fine.
