Alright so I just got back from the vet with Scottie Puppen and it sounds like he’s going to be just fine with the small caveat that he’s getting older and I need to bring a pee sample back at the end of the week.
Perfect.
It only costs $1,100 to get that news, notwithstanding an All State Pet Insurance reimbursement at a later date.
Like many of you, there’s no cost too high when talking about your sweet angel baby puppy dog. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do to give him the best life possible.
In the same vein, why doesn’t Tom Ricketts feel that way about the Cubs bullpen? Why isn’t he willing to do whatever it takes to make sure we don’t have Eli Morgan shitting his pants in the 6th game of the season? Why don’t we have more money to spend on the most important innings of the baseball games?
If I have $1,100 to give Scottie a tranq so a doctor can smell his shit, so be it. You get the full $1,100.
Meanwhile Tom Ricketts is sitting on $350M in revenue that will never make its way to the payroll. Really makes you think you right?
Anyways this is a blog about Craig Counsell and specifically how much I hate him based on the above clip alone. Specifically:
- Limited/Minimal eye contact with your own beat reporters
- Shrugging his shoulders like a child who doesn’t want to admit anything
- No accountability for his own players not doing their own jobs
- Weak/soft body language suggesting he’s upset but doesn’t want to name any names
- He’s giving this “Isn’t it obvious???” vibe that I fucking hate
- He doesn’t act like a tough manager that demands respect
I think Craig Counsell benefited too much from David Stearns in Milwaukee and it’s obvious now that he’s with the Cubs. Every bullpen move he makes seemingly backfires in his face.
Was David Ross this bad?
I don’t think so – not by a long shot.
If anything, the Cubs have played much worse with a better roster under Craig Counsell than they did with David Ross. Can anyone argue that?
I don’t want to judge too harsh too early but I think we’ve seen a lot from Craig Counsell that’s been terrible since hiring him from Milwaukee. There’s no magic. They don’t win games in bunches. The bullpen moves are atrocious. The baserunning has been consistent shit. But for Dansby Swanson then you could argue the baseball has been sloppy and uninspiring.
So while Eli Morgan isn’t good enough to be a high leverage guy for the Cubs. While Tom Ricketts has siphoned off all the money for improvements and Jed Hoyer is lost and hopeless adding talent without a budget. While there’s all these things in play and they’re obvious, I just want to be clear that I think Craig Counsell has been a poor manager for the Cubs at best.
It may not seem like much but you can tell in his media interactions. He’s a classic Notre Dame elitist that’s too busy/smart to answer such obvious questions with any semblance of class or grace. And that’s because he thinks he’s better than everyone which is exactly why I hate his guts.
He manages .500 baseball for the Cubs and nothing else.
Until that improves, cut the bullshit Craig.
