It’s Tuesday April 1st and the Cubs play tonight at 9pm. Normally I would have a long blog but we’re going a little bit shorter given all the news from last night.
So here’s some miscellaneous stuff as we get into the game:
Gage Tater Workman
Tater is my favorite middle name ever and my middle name is Carl. I don’t know if there’s a way to give more respect but I think Gage Tater deserves it.
That said, I want to see him get more plate appearances in the next two games before 6 cold games in Wrigley. That makes the most sense to be but I don’t know shit.
We’re Outside The Top 20
Bleacher Nation – So popular were those Cubs, in fact, that three of the top four MLB jersey sellers at the time were Cubs players! Kris Bryant was on top, Anthony Rizzo was second, and Javy Báez was fourth. If you extended out to the top-14 (from a few months earlier), you could add Kyle Schwarber to the mix, too.
Fast-forward eight years, and times are obviously very different.
What I do know is the Cubs need a jersey in the top 20 at all times. Simply unacceptable to not even be in the conversation, especially with Kyle Tucker coming over in a trade and PCA emerging as a bonafide superstar. That’s plenty of juice to crack the top 20 but we get nothing.
Why?
Probably because nobody wants the jersey of a player on a 1-year contract. So if Tom wants to get merch flowing, he needs to open the checkbook on Kyle Tucker plain and simple.
As for PCA, I think there’s a lot of people who are hesitant to wear a fully arched CROW-ARMSTRONG that bends down to your lower back fat. Especially on a hot summer day when the letters start clinging to your lower chunked handles.
And while those are valid explanations, the point remains simple and clear: we need to be top 20 in the jersey sales or something is functionally wrong with our leadership.
My opinion? Something’s functionally wrong with our leadership.

Go Follow Scotty Chags
I should give more credit to Cubs follows and people around Cubs social that make my life/day better. In that spirit, put Scott Changnon towards the top of the list and a borderline Must Follow for Cubs fans. He has some of my favorite behind the scenes content re: the life of the Chicago Cubs. And in addition to that, he’s a professional photographer responsible for every background on every device in my life.
He’s not paying me to say this and I owe him no favors. It’s purely from a place of love as a Cubs fan when I say that you should go follow Scott Changnon. It’s a 100% guarantee that his content will put a smile on your face.
And let’s hope the Cubs do the same for the rest of us tonight. I hate to make a big deal about early games but I really want to get to 4-4 with a chance to be 5-4 tomorrow. That would be so sick to start the domestic road record at 5-2 in the teeth of MLB’s hardest schedule of any month for any team.
To get there, we need a solid effort tonight from Justin Steele and I couldn’t ask for the ball in better hand(s) for the job. So let’s do just that and let’s get back to .500.
