Wake Up With 4K Colorized Video Footage Of The 1930s New York Yankees At Spring Training

This video has been making the rounds on social and I figured it would be the perfect way to kick off the week and get the blog rolling once again.

It was nice to be in Miami for vacation. It was nice to come back to about 40 hours of manual labor and a day at Wrigley with Mahoney. And it’s generally nice to enjoy such outstanding weather but if we’re being honest, the Cubs play much better when we’re publishing 30-35 blogs per week here on CarlsBlogs.com and that’s gotta stay a priority into the summer.

With that, I have a soft spot for old baseball. I love reading about the history and tradition. And I have tremendous respect for the quality of play 100 something years ago. People love to shit on these guys but they’re objectively tougher, better, stronger, more idealogical men and there isn’t much of a debate.

Like when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and then Bob Feller signed up for the war as one of the first volunteers in the country despite being one of its biggest celebrities. That’s so bad ass.

Or Ted Williams being the best player AND fighter pilot at the same time?

Babe Ruth outhomered several teams.

And there’s so many more stories and anecdotes all revolving around the same simple premise: these were hard nosed American men and they laid the foundation for our pasttime. Little respect in modern times would be nice but I won’t demand it. I understand how limited and thereby stupid a lot of you guys are. I’m just saying it would be nice if you opened up that steel trap you got upstairs every now and then to consider something other than a convenient bullet point.

In other news:

  • We’re recording the Monday Morning Cubs show today at 10am and then uploading the audio immediately after
  • Mahoney and I had a great time on Wednesday hosting a couple firefighters at the Cubs game and I think that will be reflected in the quality of the show
  • I laid 73 bags of mulch this weekend and I have just 28 more by calculation – most of which are to cover the bases of my oak trees
  • Birds are so loud this time of year it’s actually becoming an obstruction
  • Wait til you guys see some of the tree/leaf cover that’s coming in. MERCY.
  • Last thing – I think Cade Horton looked real sharp in his debut for the Cubs. I know he gave up that 3-run homer and a lot of you guys were crying like little pussies about it. But overall he looked so sharp and athletic and intentional and purposeful on the mound. That guy is going to be a complete dog #1 righty power stuff kinda pitcher and I think you’re better off accepting him as our biggest rotation upgrade right now.

  1. Have you done the bulk mulch to bagged mulch calculations? plus the fresh dump of mulch always smells like spring
