I’m going to hammer this point relentlessly tomorrow but for now I just want it on record that the 2025 Chicago Cubs are a team of destiny and we’re lucky to watch them every single day.
Where do you even start?
PCA continues to prove he’s not a fluke but a power/speed threat that’s capable of racking up MVP votes.
Ben Brown is average at best and still punches out 6 in 5.2 with no walks against 2 earned runs.
Nico Hoerner shows up when it matters most in the 9th inning and then turns on the jets to score from 1st on Justin Turner’s first extra base hit of the season.
Julian Mayweather still blows out of the bullpen but it doesn’t even matter because we still have enough magic to overcome pathetic late game relief pitching.
There’s so many good things to say about the 2025 Cubs that you could say just about anything right now and it would hit just fine. Even Craig Counsell is getting on my good side which was once thought to be impossible.
More importantly – it’s clearly a special season on the north side of Chicago and there’s literally no better farm system to deal from when you consider we have 6 top 100 prospects at the AAA level and another handful of guys emerging on midseason lists. It’s been 10+ years since we had a farm system to trade from and about that same amount of time since we felt a certain way about the Chicago Cubs.
Hopefully Jed can find us a 3rd baseman in the next month or so and if that’s Matt Shaw then so be it. Or somebody else, that’s fine too. But heaven forbid we fail to capitalize on this magic because we can’t figure out a corner infielder or reliable 7th inning arm. That would fucking blow and I trust Jed is smarter than that.
For now it’s good to just enjoy the fact we’re in first place with momentum and beating the teams we need to beat. We’ve waited all year for this week and a lot of us were pissed off about 10 minutes ago staring down the barrel of a 1-1 start against the dreadful Marlins.
Fortunately we don’t give up and that means a walk off 9th inning winner in front of an electric crowd.
Shit feels so good.
Go Cubs.
