It’s an off day so hopefully you got some good rest and are refocusing for Cincinnati.
In the meantime I just wanted to kick things off today with a clear double down on my sentiment towards Matt Shaw… We need more from the rookie in all respects.
And as I start down this path… as I commit myself to being unnecessarily hard and critical on the rookie, I realize there’s going to be some hate along the way from people who need to get that shit off their chest.
There’s going to be old guys named Gary that think I need to lighten up when I challenge his warning track power.
There’s going to be moms from Iowa that think I’m too vulgar because he can’t leg out a routine ground ball to short and that really pisses me off because I want better raw foot speed from Matt Shaw.
College kids will find me confusing and threatening.
People will say a whole bunch of mean things along the way and I just want to use this opportunity to recognize that I’m up for the challenge. If that’s the cost of keeping Matt Shaw honest then so be it. I’ll be on the front lines battling guys like Roger Miller all season long
Why again?
Because Matt Shaw needs a little extra salt and I’m the man for the job. I come in quite heavy handed in that regard.
With that in mind, you guys are more than welcome to join me both in spirit and in the practical conversation. If you see something Matt Shaw can improve upon then I want to know about it. Anything from how he eats his sunflower seeds to his batting glove color combination to how often he grabs his crotch in a given half-inning. You see something, you say something.
That’s how we get Matt Shaw to reach his potential.
Not by congratulating him for going 5-11 in his return to MLB and hopefully shoring up 3rd base.
In other programming news:
- Nice off day after winning 3 straight series. And I like that they’re doing it in Cincinnati where there’s nothing to do but relax at the hotel and maybe get a burger. That’s much better than an off day in basically any other MLB city and I think people should talk about stuff like this more because it matters. I want the boys rested and Cincinnati is the perfect place.
- I’m so happy I laid my mulch already and did the heavy lifting around the property: weed treatment, blow torching tree bases, garden prep and about 150 bags of mulch. Now I can just enjoy myself on the mower and not stress about the foundational stuff
- 150 bags of mulch is a lot and I tried to get it delivered. But problem is I laid a base layer before going to Miami a couple weeks ago. I got the initial base from Home Depot that was bagged by Homer Tree Company. I figured I could get a base in quick, then have Homer Tree deliver 10 cubic yards when I got back from vacation. Problem is Home Tree doesn’t directly sell the red cedar blend that I got from Home Depot, so I would have had to use different colored mulch and end of the day it just seemed to be easier to make multiple trips in my 2004 Chevy Suburban than to source an alternative red cedar. I concede this was a mistake.
- I changed the oil on my tractor the other week and didn’t tell anyone about it. Just wanted you guys to know I can do stuff like that now
- It’s been 10 weeks since debuting Carls Blogs and since then the Cubs have been 10 games over .500 so that’s also something I just wanted you guys to know about. Basically on pace for 100 wins and that’s a good thing
Everyone have a nice day and Go Cubs
