Wake Up With Sammy Sosa In The 2002 Home Run Derby

Good morning my friends and I hope you had a nice weekend.

Today is Monday June 9th and the Chicago Cubs are still in first place with a 4.0 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Other important things this week: Father’s Day on Sunday and the U.S. Open at Oakmont if you haven’t heard. I swear. Golf people need to get over themselves but that’s a different blog.

For now I just want to set the tone with some good vibes to kick things off after a bad series loss to the Detroit Tigers yesterday.

Normally I’d hit you with full game highlights, but in this case that would simply be reduced to umpire Derek Thomas fucking Nico Hoerner and Craig Counsell good and hard in the 5th inning. So let’s not do that but instead run back some Sammy highlights as the All Star chatter starts to pick up.

Some notes on All Star Game chatter:

  • Nico Hoerner is projected to be the odd man out of the 2nd base debate – losing to Brendan Donavan and Brice Turang, both NL Central competitors. It’s still too early to get mad about projections but that would be crazy to leave out Nico Hoerner.
  • Dansby Swanson is not even in the conversation
  • PCA and Kyle Tucker are our only projected representatives although they’re both supposed to be starters at this point
  • No starting or relief pitchers are even on the table at this point
  • Seiya Suzuki is not even mentioned in discussions for the DH position which is understandable behind Schwarber and Ohtani. But it still kinda bothers me.
  • I should not take this stuff personally

Normally I don’t care about the All Star Game but I feel like the Cubs have a chance here to get more than two names into the game and that’s important because they’ve played so well this year. So at least give me 3 names to work with. Show a little bit more respect to the collective body of work because it’s there. If you watch this lineup every single day than you know there’s more to go around than 2 nominations.

In that spirit.

Matt Shaw rookie of the year looks like a lock. He’s only getting better and he’s already fantastic – but again we can’t let him know that until the season’s over.

Other stuff:

  • Monday Morning Cubs Show is being recorded at 10:30am and posted immediately after
  • My new summer coffee is a brown sugar iced-shaken espresso size tall because anything more than that would send me crashing
  • I finished Andor season 2 finally and I really enjoyed it
  • Brother Rice beat Mt. Carmel in sectional championship on Saturday and now plays Providence today to advance to the state quarterfinals. So that’s nice and I just wanted to say congratulations and Go Crusaders.
  • I went to a White Sox game on Saturday with some friends and family and let me tell you guys. I had a great time. The food and concourse action at a White Sox game is unmatched, and it’s a much easier experience than Wrigley Field. I think that’s important and possibly worth a longer blog later today but we’ll see how the MMCS goes first.
  • Everyone have a great day.

Go Cubs.
