It’s Monday which means there’s a Monday Morning Cubs show and it just got posted. So here’s a blog including the description right here:
Welcome back to the Monday Morning Cubs Show for June 9th and we got a loaded one for you guys starting with Kyle Hendricks’ 100th career win, which we think is actually surprising. We talk playoff odds, world series chances and a janky starting pitching staff before heavy ball or strike. Should the Cubs have played differently against Skubal? Do we have a deep offense or is this its true colors? Do we still love Cade Horton? Michael Busch was awesome this week and Matt Shaw looks like a Rookie of the Year while Nico gets a raw deal. There’s a bunch of reasons to be positive about a 3-3 week and a couple fun notes on Mahoney’s list about his favorite band and maybe a fun fact or cracker jack. Go Cubs.
It’s a loaded show and we’re using more segments this time and trying some different stuff I suppose.
A lot of laughs as always. Mahoney’s on point per usual.
Some specific stuff:
- Michael Busch has been really good but shouldn’t hit against lefties because Justin Turner gives you more competitive at bats
- Playoff odds are good but should be better if the Cubs had more favorable starting pitching
- I think Chris Sale would hate to come back to the Chicago Cubs
- Kyle Hendricks should have more than 100 wins based on how fondly we remember him
- The St. Louis Cardinals are Busch League for disrespecting Clayton Kershaw, who is one of the greatest plkayers of all time
- Jameson Taillon is our default #1 right now and that’s kinda funny because our starting pitching is not that good.
- In other words it’s janky
- It should be much better after the trade deadline because Jed Hoyer is smart enough to see this is a World Series team
- Matt Shaw is a good bet to win Rookie of the Year because he’s only going to get better and that probably means hitting 3 long-term. He just needs to put on some weight and act like he belongs.
