X.com – Speculation is rife about a potential reunion between Khalil Mack and the Chicago Bears for the 2025 season. Khalil Mack, who was a standout linebacker for the Bears from 2018 to 2021, has reportedly expressed interest in returning to the team. This move aligns with the Bears’ strategy to enhance their pass rush, a critical area of improvement identified for the upcoming season. Fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of Mack donning the Bears jersey once again, not only for his on-field prowess but also for his potential role as a mentor to younger players like Montez Sweat. Discussions around the league suggest that a short-term contract could be mutually beneficial, allowing Mack to contribute his experience and leadership while the Bears aim to fortify their defense. While the specifics of any deal remain under wraps, the interest from both sides seems genuine, promising an exciting chapter for Bears fans.
This is big news and I want to be specific with the source because Chris Emma is reporting on this hard from Indianapolis, and we like Chris Emma A LOT
670 – A reunion between nine-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Khalil Mack and the Bears could make sense.
Mack, who turned 34 last week, only had six sacks in 2024 as he played through a groin injury for much of the season. He had 4.5 sacks in his first eight games before suffering the groin injury on Nov. 3. He had only 1.5 sacks in the rest of the season.
Sources believe Mack has interest in a return to Chicago, where he played from 2018-’21. Mack isn’t interested in the spotlight, but the vision would be for him to be a complementary piece of the defense, not the star.
As the Bears look to make a turnaround, they could sign Mack to a one- or two-year deal that fits within quarterback Caleb Williams’ rookie contract window. That would allow them to retain their salary cap flexibility in the long-term.
The key here is “sources believe Mack has interest” which could mean a number of things. Who are the sources? How strong do they believe? What does it even mean to say he has interest?
That’s one of those quotes where you can read into it as much as you like. And personally I choose to max out on how much it means to me. This is a full send. Khalil Mack obviously wants to be back with the Bears.
Here’s my take on the situation:
He’s a great leader and the locker room needs great leaders. It needs tough guys and a veteran presence that doesn’t make me sick to my stomach. Basically we need the complete opposite of Ryan Poles and we need it in spades.
Everyone says the Bears are going heavy in the trenches this offseason and I think Khalil Mack is perfect for both sides.
On defense, you get a mentor and a guy who can rush the passer when healthy. He doesn’t need to play every snap. You can design packages around him and he’s going to be the most coachable guy to add to the locker room because he knows how to do everything and is extremely smart about how he impacts other players.
Offensively, you get his motor challenging the new guys that will be coming in. This one’s kind of a stretch but still worth considering. I want my rookie tackles going up against Mack in practice. I want #52 teaching the young guys about the swim move and how to prepare for elite pass rushers and all the shit that comes with a hall of famer like him. I want all of that in the locker room and I want it right now.
From a cap perspective, you have to like the price tag on all these intangibles. Especially if you can do it for 1-year while he proves that he’s healthy and can still play. There’s no reason this should have any material impact on long-term free agency and roster construction.
That would be the best case scenario and I’m 100% behind it even if it’s just preliminary interest from a secondhand source and blah blah blah. I say pull the trigger and then keep building around his leadership. Worst case scenario is you draft a player in the 5th/6th round that would end up taking this spot anyways.
