Brock Purdy’s Contract Extension Is Proof The Chicago Bears Need To Win Right Now

X.com – The San Francisco 49ers have initiated contract discussions with quarterback Brock Purdy, proposing an annual salary of $45 million. This move comes after the team’s decision to trade Deebo Samuel, which has freed up cap space but also raised questions about the team’s direction. While some view the offer as a necessary step to retain Purdy, whose performance has been pivotal for the team, others debate whether his success is more a product of the 49ers’ system than his individual skill. The negotiations are crucial, not only for Purdy’s future but also for the 49ers’ strategy in maintaining competitiveness in the league. The financial strategy behind this offer is seen by some as a starting point, aiming to secure a long-term asset while navigating the complexities of the salary cap. This development follows the team’s recent financial adjustments, including the trade of Samuel, which has left them with approximately $34 million in cap space.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but Brock Purdy isn’t worth $45,000,000 and not by a long a shot.

I don’t care about analytics and statistics and whatever supporting case you have to make. I just know 45 million dollar quarterbacks when I see them and Brock Purdy isn’t one of them.

Even so the Niners are willing to offer him 15% of the salary cap because that’s the going rate for a successful quarterback.

Even if he only made $700K-$1M for the first 3 years in the league

That Cap Hit is about to skyrocket because Purdy has leverage on an extension and it’s going to cost at least $45,000,000.

Now compare that to Caleb Williams contract situation and understand that if it goes even remotely well next season or in 2026, then you’re looking at $50M+ and probably a whole lot more.

The leverage behind double-digit wins in Chicago with a new ownership group that’s about to unload a billion dollars on a new stadium … that’s the kinda leverage that gets Caleb Williams the biggest contract in football.

And as we’re celebrating the addition of $33,000,000 worth of interior linemen and all this cap space and draft picks, I can’t help but wonder how expensive Caleb Williams will be if this all works out. And more importantly, I can’t help but worry that the Bears are going to completely bomb on the contract extension.

Supporting cast becomes a lot harder to build when the cap hit explodes. And even with the cap rising and revenues soaring, it’s hard for me to imagine the disaster looming.

All of this to say the time is right now for the Chicago Bears. If Brock Purdy is getting that much money then we’re certainly doomed to fail when it comes time to pay Caleb. So let’s avoid all that in 2025 and 2026 with back to back Super Bowl appearances, and then hopefully Caleb settles on a hometown friendly extension because he’s become addicted to the success. More Super Bowls will follow and then maybe at that point we can finally settle down and be happy with our miserable lives.

Until then, I’m worried about this Brock Purdy extension guys.

I really am.
