Me and Mahoney are recording the Monday Morning Cubs Show as you read this so excuse me on the 9:30am spot to run back one of the most classic sporting events of my lifetime: Wrestlemania 14 Title Match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels.
I remember where I was 30 years later like it was 30 minutes ago. My longtime favorite in HBK up against my rising superstar Stone Cold in a match that would decide my primary allegiance through the end of the millennium. And even saying that, I’m grossly underrepresenting the significance to a 10 year old Carl.
Crazy to think how much people are complaining about this year’s Wrestlemania considering the WWE has 100% control over everything. Like you have dozens of writers and market research people and lifelong veterans coming up with storylines and you still whiff with the general public? YOU DECIDE EVERYTHING BEFORE THE EVENT AND STILL CAN’T GET IT RIGHT. That would be like the NFL fixing super bowls for decades just so they could buy another offseason extension on the Belichick vs. Brady GOAT debate
The whole thing makes me sick – especially for the poor families that only subscribe to Peacock for the wrestling content. Do you know how much French cycling promos you have to endure? How often Peacock encourages you to watch New Zealand rugby? And literally every women’s sport in Europe?
It’s bullshit.
And the movies suck!
There’s something bigger going on here that I’ll investigate after the Monday Morning Cubs Show. Mahoney knows a lot on this space so I’ll pick his brain.
