Probably my favorite podcast I have ever recorded if we’re being dead serious. I love this Chicago Cubs team and I love talking about them with my close pal Mahoney. Put him on your radar because he’s an awesome guy.
Loaded show today with so much going on. We are absolutely rolling in all aspects of life as we get into the month of June.
The biggest talking point for me right now is the bullpen really coming together and finding their identities. On that front, it’s been good to see them cut ties with so many guys so quickly. We’re not fucking around this year and that means quickly reshuffling the deck when necessary. It’s reflected in the number of roster moves and different looks over the last couple weeks. The end result? MLB’s lowest bullpen ERA for the month of May.
It’s not how you draw it up but most important is that it’s working with a number of misfit toys. I don’t know how or why Jed is able to scratch it together like this but it’s finally good to see the bullpen come together under Counsell. That’s all we heard about him in Milwaukee and we never came close to that magic last year.
Personally I think it’s all about culture and personality. The Cubs are filled with professional veterans at the end of the bullpen that are so comfortable within their own games. And the guys that were erratic have been asked to leave. So really it’s this All Business kinda attitude down there that continues to perform.
Nice thing is the schedule starts to heat up in June and I fully trust what we’re working with at this point. Just so much good ugly baseball over the last couple weeks that you’d be a moron to doubt the Cubs right now.

We just need one more starting pitcher and I really think this has World Series written all over it. No bullshit. Just one of those magical years that comes around every two decades and we need to ride this wave all the way. Really no other choice when you think about it.
