Ashton Jeanty had his pro day yesterday and the entire internet is cumming its shorts as a result. It’s disgusting.
He looked like an absolute beast which should surprise no one after doing this:
But alas people (and more specifically, Bears fans) are going nuts because he looked awesome at pro day with his shirt off.
No shit.
What people aren’t talking about is that Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson weren’t even there, and that’s atypical for Poles. He traveled to both Caleb and Rome’s pro days last year and he visited with Darnell Wright before the 2023 draft. Jeanty’s gotten none of that.
Eric Bienemy also missed out on the pro day and he’s supposed to be our running back guru. You would imagine with his experience that he’d be on site to evaluate the Bears’ presumed first rounder.
And that’s where it can go one of two ways. First, the Bears are slow playing interest to confuse the competition. They don’t want to tip their hand that they’re already sold on Jeanty in the first round. And the tape is so good, they don’t even need the core leadership to be on site. So they’re lulling everyone to sleep with a false sense of security that they’re not interested.
Alternatively, the other option says the Bears know he’s not going to be there at 10 so why even waste the time? In that case it looks like they wouldn’t be drafting up for the running back which is exactly what we want. Either stay at 10 and take best available or trade down to add more picks. But under no circumstance should we be trading up for the running back.
Personally I think the Bears are sold on Jeanty at 10 but they see it as a pipe dream with the interest shown from the Saints and the needs for the Raiders at 6. In that scenario it would take a miracle for him to get there. And while crazier things have happened, I’m not holding my breath the Bears are in any position to get Jeanty. Mostly because it’s too good to be true but now the reporting is starting to line up in the same way. So let’s just do ourselves one big favor right now and forget that he was even available to us.
And I know that’s salty but I’ve had enough from everyone on the topic. So much that I’m kinda mad at myself in the first place for even getting to this point. I started draft day prep saying I didn’t even want to talk about a running back in the 1st round because it was so stupid. And then I started watching tape and getting hyped for a dynamic playmaker and you know the rest. I went way too far on the daydream and it’s time to wake up.
