Lineup Preview Sunday June 29th: It’s Hot As Balls Outside

I’m working on a social media schedule for Sterk Family Farms while Mrs. Carl (Nicole) is in the test kitchen today. It’s so hot outside that I actually prefer freezing temperatures at this point because at least you can protect yourself.

Right now it’s insufferable and that’s the doughy Irish American blood in me. There’s nothing I can do about it.

Even so it’s probably worse in Houston and that’s where the Cubs are today and I just had a couple thoughts on the game.

Here they are:

  • Win or lose, we survived the week no matter what happens today. We bounce back with 3 of the last 4 after dropping the first 2. It’s that kinda resiliency that gives me confidence about this club into the 2nd half. They don’t quit.
  • I’m interested to see how the nearly-all righty lineup performs today against Valdez. He’s not the best pitcher we’ve seen this year but he’s still very good and it’s definitely the kinda arm at the top of a playoff rotation. So good measuring stick for a lot of guys like Justin Turner and Carson Kelly and even Jon Berti.
  • I like Matt Shaw in the long run but I’m happy to see him take a day off after a positive game yesterday. Seems like we’re managing his emotions more than anything. We want him coming out of the Astros series feeling good and I think keeping him away from Valdez helps that. He needs to get going more and I am 100% convinced it’s entirely between his ears. So while it would be good to see how he fares against Valdez, I’m totally fine with him sitting.
  • I hate how much I like Dansby compared to everyone else. It makes me so uncomfortable. I used to shit on Starlin Castro relentlessly and it was super awkward because everyone loved him. This is the complete opposite. I trust Dasnsby with my life where most of you want to see him dead.
  • People hate that Michael Busch sits against lefties but I think Justin Turner is still more competitive in select match ups and this is one of those match ups.
  • Justin Turner is 1 homer away from 200 for his career and I sincerely think today is the today he gets there
  • Huge game today but again we survived the week and that’s most important.

Fresh MMCS coming tomorrow morning.

Go Cubs and shoutout Mrs. Carl for mulching the garden this weekend while I played golf. I’m a lucky man more than I can explain and that’s awesome.
