I’m not an expert but this is what I see in that clip above:
Boog: how’d it go?
Jed: pretty bad.
Boog (back peddaling): what’s up?
Jed: *turns back to camera, grabs crotch*
Boog (shaking his head): I don’t know what they’re doing…
This could mean a lot of things and it all centers on Who Is They?
These are my options:
- Ricketts won’t approve the money needed for Bregman. This would make the most sense. Jed is in a good mood with Boog, greeted with a fist bump, and wants to show that he’s just not getting the money necessary. Also worth mentioning this feels like a set up from Marquee Network and Boog to put pressure on Ricketts to open the checkbooks. And while I may sound pretty insane right now, I assure you I am just fine. I have not lost my marbles. I’m just saying I think this could be a planned move by Jed and Boog to show that Tom is shortchanging the front office on money once again. This – of course – would be in conjunction with Crane Kenney limiting the money. My gut says the 3 of them sat down and talked about it today and that Crane and Tom we’re
- Option #2 is that Bregman’s camp won’t accept a reasonable offer. Or they’re dragging their feet. Or something along the lines of Bregman’s team was disappointing in a recent call. There could have been an update today that Boog knew about and Jed is telling him it didn’t go well because of a number of reasons. I think this is significantly less likely the option above.
- Jed went to a bad rub and tug in Phoenix that Boog recommended. Boog was disappointed to hear that Jed got a rash and they wouldn’t play with his ass the way he likes.
These are the 3 scenarios I’ve flushed out and I really think it’s #1 if we’re being honest followed by 3 then a distant 2.
Most likely scenario is that Crane Kenney (BARF!!!!) and Tom Ricketts sat Jed down today and explained they couldn’t commit money to Alex Bregman because they’re cheap and spineless.
Jed, a notoriously cool guy, probably had a couple beers with Boog recently and explained that they’d be having this big meeting Wednesday morning. And it sure seems like that meeting went shitty or else there’s no excuse for the team president to be bullshitting with the play by play guy negatively in the way they are. It’s obvious Boog knew something was going down and it’s obvious Jed wanted to share bad news in front of cameras.
In that case, of course, maybe it was just a plate of nachos or a bad taco recommendation. Boog’s a big guy so this could easily be a lunch conversation. Don’t rule that out whatsoever. d
I just think there’s something bigger at play than a side salad. You know? This one feels a little bigger and a little more disappointing than finding out Portillo’s served a dry and cold combo.
Anyways it’s kind of awkward working on the Bregman story incognito. So let me say on the record (for myself) that it would be nice for him to wait until Friday afternoon for me to announce CarlsBlogs.com for him to simultaneously announce that he’s joining the Cubs for the next 4 seasons. That would be sick.
