Remember That Time Jon Scheyer Scored 21 Points In 75 Seconds? That Was Awesome

I can’t help myself. I’m addicted to NBA player podcast clips and today it’s Pat Bev talking about IHSA legend Jon Scheyer.

And maybe this is bad on my part as someone who actively loves high school sports, but I had no idea Jon Scheyer went down with a bad eye injury for good. Hearing it back sounds familiar, but I never completely registered that as the reason he went right into coaching.

Now consider where the game’s evolved and I think Scheyer’s probably still playing like one of those Kyle Korver style careers. There’d definitely be a spot for him on an NBA roster long enough for him to go on a Steve Novak run and cement himself for 15+ years. I don’t think that’s an outrageous take when you consider he’s a 3-point assassin and also Coach K’s favorite player All Time.

Really though I just want to use this opportunity to remember the 21 points in 75 seconds at Proviso West in 2005/2006 season. I was a freshman in college and still vividly remember the buzz in Champaign about Scheyer pouring in 21 points in the last 1:15 of a game.

If you’re unfamiliar, it’s hard to believe until you watch it for yourself.
