Kinda sad story I think? I guess?
I’m still pretty raw in the world of soccer but smart enough to know Luka Modric is a certified fucking gangster in the midfield. So much that I almost became a Real Madrid fan a few years ago under the direct impression I could watch Luka Modric regularly.
I didn’t make that commitment – ultimately because I don’t care for the Spanish League and picking the best UCL team in history was a little cheap and easy. But also because they’re simply too good to cheer for. What a waste of my time and effort when I could be busy supporting Everton, a fact I’ll address later.
For now though I just wanted to say that if you’re not paying attention to soccer then you’re stupid because it’s a good sport played at convenient hours. Nothing beats a 6:30am match with a cup of coffee on a Saturday knowing my house won’t be up and running for at least another 2 hours. Small bet and some relaxing commentary while taking in beautiful displays of athleticism in an extremely structured format that’s super easy to follow. That’s what sucked me in and now I’m blogging about Luka Modric. So you tell me.
Meanwhile I think it’s important to expand your sporting horizons. I don’t need soccer as much as I’m open minded to it, and then it delivered tenfold. But I concede it could’ve been any sport. It could’ve easily been cricket or the weird Indian tag game on ESPN+ at odd hours that sounds like this modern 3-piece band I like a lot
Khruangbin?
That’s the one.
Those guys rock and Luka Modric is an awesome soccer player.
That’s the point I want to make.
And before I hit the highlights – I think the midfielder is the best and most important player on the field. It took me a couple years to see the value in the long connecting pass and being able to control the pace of a game. Slowing it down and speeding up as you see fit. Managing the flow and basically coaching the boys in real time is like being a catcher or a quarterback. It’s awesome and I think Luka Modric was one of the coolest I saw in the window of me watching this sport.
So with that, congratulations on a sick career and putting together some filthy tape.
