NEW PODCAST – Reacting To The Cubs Start + Bullpen Breakdown

This is a podcast blog. I just recorded the episode with Mahoney and wanted to share some highlights.

First and obviously – please check it out or subscribe or whatever the right way to endorse the show is. Just please do that so we can keep cranking these out as we see fit.

Some other highlights and observations:

  • It’s our 22nd show together and probably my favorite because I spend about half of it laughing my dick off
  • I grade the Cubs 60 on the 20-80 scale so far but if you consider everything going on, you could argue it as high as 70 without much debate from me. I think it’s been amazing to go 5-2 on the West Coast and I’m very optimistic about the team
  • The best part of the lineup so far has been the balance. It’s like we have 3 separate 1-2-3 groupings. You can see it as
    • Happ – Tucker – Suzuki
    • Busch – Swanny – Nico
    • PCA – Shaw – Amaya
  • Those are all solid 1-2-3’s in isolation and we’re stacking them on top. I haven’t seen or felt that way before about a lineup grouping.
  • My least favorite thing is that an injury can rip this roster to shreds and we don’t have much depth.
  • I’m very bullish on the bullpen because of maturity and professionalism sprinkled across. Especially compared to last year’s routine auditions for MLB playing time. This is a completely different setup and it’s obvious.
  • I think Jed Hoyer pulled the wool over Tom’s eyes on the Tucker trade. There’s no way Tom knew he’d be this impactful and there’d be this much pressure from fans for a big contract or else know way he agrees to bring him in. But now that Tucker’s here, there’s almost no choice for Tom without getting the wrath of the fans. It’s truly genius work from Jed to force his hand.
  • I don’t care about City Connect jerseys or Walk Up songs as much as everyone else and that should change
  • I think you should get to the ballpark 1 hour before 1st pitch if you want a promotional item. 20 minutes if you’re just showing up to watch the game. And going after 1st pitch is because of poor planning and you’re allowed one of those every 8 games without losing my respect.
  • I’ll be there tomorrow and I’m leaning towards standing room only because it’s shitty weather and the tickets are otherwise just too unreasonably priced for a 40 degree day game and I hope that doesn’t make me old and salty

Go listen to the show. I think it’s really good and my buddy Mahoney is very funny. So if you like the Cubs and are from Chicago, by all means please dig in:
