In 1905, Lombardi’s Pizza opened its doors in New York City, earning recognition as America’s first licensed pizzeria. Gennaro Lombardi, an Italian immigrant, began by selling tomato pies to local workers and eventually established a full-fledged restaurant. Over a century later, Lombardi’s continues to serve its signature coal-fired pizzas in Manhattan’s Little Italy.
Have you ever been before?
The Cubs just started and I don’t want to spend too much time away from the game on the 3:30pm blog.
At the same time I don’t understand how American Pizza is only 120 years old. That’s way too young and just doesn’t make any sense to me. Like when people hear that Picasso died in the 70’s or Liberace was super gay and they all act super surprised.
I’m the same way right now. I would’ve said Pizza came over on the Mayflower if the Natives weren’t already slinging Maize & Squash deep dish.
Well turns out that would be extremely wrong. Turns out John McGraw played HIS ENTIRE CAREER IN NEW YORK without getting a slice of pizza.
Did I emphasize that correctly?
JOHN MCGRAWS ENTIRE CAREER

I’ll need some time to sort this out in my brain.
For now I think people should be a lot more respectful towards pizza generally because it’s exploded since debuting in 1905. I don’t think there’s a better food item across any cuisine or genre or class or whatever. Pizza is king and it only took 120 years to build the empire. Who fuckin knew?
PS – The Cubs are up 1-0 in the 3rd inning and I really like the way we came out swinging today.
PPS – Carson Kelly is on pace for 176 RBI’s
