Go follow Mahoney on twitter. That’s #1 part of this blog. He’s one of the nicest and most positive people you’re ever gonna meet and I think Chicago’s secret weapon. Hear me now, believe me later. Mahoney’s got the sauce that will keep you coming back.
Point #2 – The series victory in MLB needs to be talked about a lot more. Especially if we’re limiting the amount of 2 and 4 game sets to focus on 6 games a week in two different series. If that’s becoming a mainline trend across the league then I want to start focus more on series victories because that’s the ultimate test.
Of course I want to win every game. And of course I hate losing every time we lose. But nobody reading this anywhere can argue against winning 2 out of 3 against any team.
You could have the worst 1st game of a series and get blown out by 20. Then win the next 2 games by 1-run each in the ugliest fashion and you actually had a great week despite losing the run differential by a whopping -18. And that’s because the only thing that matters is winning more than you lose.
I need you guys to remember this.
As we move through this season, I want people talking more about the SERIES and less about the game. If we play like shit on a Monday then we start talking about getting it together on Tuesday. We pivot our attention and negativity to the next opportunity. And we start acting like there’s another game coming because there’s always another game coming to prepare for.
As that pertains to the last Rockies sweep – a lot of people are mad the bats weren’t rocking and rolling from the start. And I understand that.
But to me the conversation shifts to We won another series and we have momentum into the Reds at home.
And as I type this, I realize this is our first divisional series at Wrigley Field this entire season. More than a third of the way through and no division games on our home turf. That’s pretty wild but I digress.
My point is that I want people talking about the season in groups of 3 games. And I want your attention on winning these subgroups 2 out of 3 times. Start treating everything like best of 3 and let that result dictate your overall satisfaction with the club’s performance.
Truthfully I’ve gotten away from the mindset as we started playing shitty teams the last two weeks. Admittedly, I have fallen into the trap of wanting to win every single game and that’s just been stupid. I need to reel it in and that starts this off day with a classic reframe and refocus.
My intent: getting my mind right for the playoffs and it starts now with a series attitude.
So that’s point #2 of the blog.
Point #3?
