REPORT: Alex Bregman Does Not Want To Sign With The Cubs For Only 4-5 Years

It’s the 4:30pm slot on a Thursday. This is my 39th blog of the week and I’m starting to feel it in my finger tips. I’m not complaining as much as I’m just being dead honest with you guys. If we’re going to make CarlsBlogs.com work here then I need to figure out a way to strengthen my typing core. It’s been a good week to build off but I’ll be honest. I could a cupcake topic before heading into the MILF of the day and regrettably this is not it.

In a perfect world, that tweet would read “Alex Bregman has signed a discounted 4 year deal with the Chicago Cubs.” But it does not. Instead we’re still waiting and considering the fact that Tom Ricketts will absolutely not, under no set of circumstances, extend a 6-7 year deal to Alex Bregman. That’s because it would cost well over $150M and Tom just doesn’t have the cash for that kinda investment much less the risk tolerance to finance it. He’s too weak and wet in my opinion. That’s why it was so important to learn Jed had moved the needle on a 4-year deal recently. Or at least that’s what legacy media wanted us to believe?

The reality: nobody knows anything about MLB free agency until it actually happens. Not even Passan. We can only speculate to the best of our ability and I think it’s kind of a waste of time. Like there’s literally no benefit to me being plugged in right now to the inner workings of the roster decisions. Just wake me up when the 40-man is completely filled out and we’re ready to compete. To me, that’s when I should really start caring about the big league roster.

And that’s not to say I ignore baseball in the winter time. Obviously not because there’s so much juicy transactions to be had. I’m simply talking more about the speculative space of breaking news before it’s breaking news. All of it just seems like a bunch of hot air this time of year.

Alternatively, I really like following the prospect rankings and sizing up our minor league capital before the spring starts. That gives you a good idea of the strength and future, and that’s where you can spend a lot of time productively daydreaming because it’s much better suited for those types of thoughts. It’s more appropriate to dream up Moises Ballestros debuting in July to spark a 2nd half surge than it is to think about a Kyle Tucker extension in mid-March.

Right or wrong, that’s at least how I feel about things.

And again, I’m not saying that I don’t want to talk about trades and free agency. I’m just saying I think potential transactions occupy way too much conversational space and we would all benefit from toning it down.

With that in mind, I will go off the deep end if Bregman doesn’t sign with the Cubs at this point. Stop fucking around Tom and cut a check. My emotional well being is a stake here and I’m not going back to Nick Madrigal.

Make it happen.

PS = 🤤
