The Cubs beat the World Champion Dodgers 4-3 in the season series going 4-1 on domestic soil just this month and that’s awesome. The Dodgers are a very good baseball team and we flat out beat them this year in every phase of the game. Infield play. 2-out hitting. Everything.
With that in mind, please enjoy the full highlights. I’ve sat through so many 10 minute montages of bad games and blown leads – you better believe I’m going to marinate in the good ones now that I have the chance.
Some other things I want to talk about:
- I’m scaling back the blog today for just a couple posts at 8am, 11am, 2pm and 5pm into the draft. That’s because the I have about 10 hours of maintenance on the property before I leave for Miami this weekend and today is the only nice weather day. So I have to get it done before it rains or else I’m totally fucked being gone all next week.
- In fairness I’ll keep the blog running tomorrow into Cubs/Phillies and Day 2 of the draft.
- So to be clear, lighter today for full coverage tomorrow
- Don’t be deceived. I actually enjoy all the outdoor work for a number of reasons. It keeps you disciplined because you have to constantly plan around it. I also enjoy gardening and growing things and the house looks spectacular when it’s properly cared for. That gives you a huge amount of pride after a long day cleaning shit up.
- It’s a shade under 2 acres which is approximately 1.7 more acres than I’d be comfortable caring for but that’s part of the trade off to be off the grid.
- Specifically I need to get about 30 bags of mulch from home depot to serve as a base layer around the house. If there’s more time then I’ll grab another 15 bags for the trees this afternoon. It’s important to get that down before the perennials bloom because then it’s harder to mulch evenly.
- Other important tasks:
- Change oil on the tractor
- Change battery on the tractor
- Start a small burn fire with remaining leaves
- Trim hygrangeas
- Chop firewood
- Clear out garage winter storage
- Clear garage roof
- Weed garden
- Mulch garden
- Tree bases
- Blowtorch
- Line
- Mulch
- Spray driveway for weeds (~30,000 square feet)
- Clean patio furniture
- IF I’M LUCKY – Power Wash front patio
- This is the stuff on my list. There’s going to be more shit that comes up but so far a good starting point. Certainly enough for the weekend but that all got pushed up today with forecasts for heavy precipitation tomorrow.
I could skip all this stuff but then I’m just being a lazy asshole and then I’ll hate myself. Especially coming back from Miami next week with all the explosive growth going on. The Sunday night panic just isn’t worth it – especially if we want to keep the vibes rolling along this Cubs season. I need to stay sharp and fresh and that means good clean landscaping.
Some other stuff about the Cubs:
- Stop complaining about the batting order. It’s fine. We’re 16-10 and guys are having great seasons. Just because PCA is going hot right now doesn’t mean we need to change 1-5. And just because Swanny is trash through April doesn’t mean he has to hit 8th. It’s not that significant. Especially compared to the benefits of consistency knowing where you’ll hit every single day. So just calm down about the batting order. It’s not little league and you’re not improving the team by changing things to accommodate short term performance. At least not right now.
- We need to call up Cade Horton in the next 2 weeks so we know what kinda trade deadline moves we need to make. I need at least 8 starts from Cade Horton before I commit to trading the farm for a starting pitcher. These are not requests as much as they’re demands.
- Porter Hodge looked electric last night in the closer’s role and I love that he can grow into it naturally
- I need a 3rd baseman so bad that I’m becoming nervous we traded the wrong guy for Kyle Tucker. Cam Smith has been so much better looking than Matt Shaw. Then mix the fact we’re on our 7th option at 3rd in just 26 games and I want to puke my guts out. Please don’t get this wrong.
- Finally PCA is the best Cubs player since Kris Bryant and that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever said. I never saw this coming. And to think we have him for just 2 months of Javy Baez? That takes the sting out of whiffing on all the other trades from the WS core. If PCA is the only regular from all that then so be it. He’s plenty good and we’re only just scratching the surface.
