Thank God The Cubs Don’t Have To Deal With This Bullshit

The only reason we’re still talking about the Red Sox is because Alex Bregman picked them over the Cubs. And more specifically, how the Red Sox committed $40M a year to Bregman without hammering out details on what position he would play. Apparently that extended itself to current 3rd baseman Rafael Devers, who is signed through 2033 on a $313.5M contract.

And now we’re back at Red Sox spring training to hear player/manager Triston Casas call Rafael Devers the best 3rd baseman in baseball.

LOL!

That’s the sound of a guy who doesn’t want Devers knocking on 1st base because he sucks at 3rd.

Triston Casas is in job protection mode only, and will say whatever’s necessary to keep Devers on the other side of the infield. So of course he’s taking his side on this one. Who wouldn’t in Triston Casas’s shoes?

It’s crazy to think how positive things were for the Red Sox just a few days ago. Especially with all the angst and anger that’s been manifesting for years. Finally a big competitive splash into free agency only to have your 3 and 4 hitters forced to meet the media the following week to talk about position changes. The vibes couldn’t have turned any faster and it’s entirely self-inflicted bullshit.

Wins and losses will ultimately decide how big of a deal this ends up being. But right now I’m feeling very lucky the Cubs don’t really have any of this stupid bullshit drama around the club right now. Sure it’s annoying to miss on free agents and question ownership spending – but everyone does that.

I’m talking about meaningless stupid shit that rips a group apart in the long-run. This is exactly how it starts: a small amount of belly-aching that turns into an individual excuse that then gets applied across the group. Applied: someone doesn’t like the position they’re playing, then they hit .220, then they blame it on the position they’re playing, then other guys start complaining about how they aren’t complaining about position changes, those guys start hitting .220 as well and then next thing you know the Red Sox are sellers at the trade deadline.

I know a lot about that kinda bitching and I think it’s disgusting trash. So good luck to the Red Sox avoiding it and congratulations to the Cubs on getting the depth chart figured out BEFORE signing $120M contracts. I feel like that’s something the Red Sox should probably work on next time.

PS – Triston Casas is one of my favorite non Cubs in MLB because he’s a total hippie lunatic and I think the world is going to fall in love with him when Netflix drops their Clubhouse documentary on April 8th. This looks so bad ass that I really might have to give the Red Sox my #2 status for 2025.

PPS – My MLB Team rankings:

  1. Cubs
  2. White Sox
  3. Dodgers
  4. Giants
  5. Red Sox

This is subject to change, always.
