The Bi-Monthly Pizza Club Met Last Night At York Tavern In Oakbrook, IL And Here’s What We Decided

I host an invitation-only group called the Bi Monthly Pizza Club that meets at select Chicago suburban pizzerias to discuss and vote on current events. We meet the 2nd to last Wednesday of every odd numbered month, so we met last night at York Tavern in Oakbrook, IL.

The reason we meet is to explore suburban pizza, stay connected without work/family/bullshit getting in the way and to discuss a series of current events.

After each talking point, we establish one official institutional position from the BMPC. If necessary, we will hold a vote to clarify an official position like we did last night on the Bears relocation conversation.

This week’s talking points are predictable but still important.

Here’s what we’re working with:

  1. The Crosstown Classic is still a valid rivalry for the year even if the two teams are headed in complete opposite directions. There’s always a reason to watch and care even if you’re an emotionally tortured White Sox fan that’s physically ill with the state of the White Sox. No matter what, we agree BMPC will always hold the Crosstown Classic in high regard.
  2. The Bi-Monthly Pizza Club does not like the Ishbia’s and do not want them as majority owners of the Chicago White Sox because they’re not good for the city of Chicago. We’re a Chicago first pizza club and we want that reflected in ownership values. We’re also troubled with recent reports that the Ishbia brothers are scumbags to an extent that exceeds Jerry Reinsdorf’s cheapskate power-grubbing ways.
  3. At least 50% of the BMPC will go to the Pope’s visit to Chicago whenever that is announced. This agreement is valid up to 15 years or at a time when the Pope visits Chicago – whichever comes sooner. We believe the Cubs will always outdraw the Pope in a World Series parade but concede that Pope Leo XIV could yield a crowd in excess of 5,000,000 at Grant Park. We believe seeing Pope in person is a once in a lifetime experience and that is appropriately reflected in the group’s commitment to the event.
  4. We really like the Pope
  5. We think Pope content is played out online – especially cheesy and corny Chicago memes. But we concede that’s what makes the internet so special. There’s good with the bad. It’s Pope overload right now but that first day of Pope is one of the better internet days in years. So while Pope content is played out online, we understand the cyclical relationship in content and enjoyed that first big wave of Chicago Pope material.
  6. We believe merchandising the Pope is amoral and we’re tired of bad Pope jokes.
  7. We briefly discussed the White Sox immediate plans to honor Pope with a mural on the concourse. We are not surprised the White Sox dedicated physical space to Pope’s attendance at a World Series game. We have loose plans to visit the mural.
  8. The Bi Monthly Pizza Club does not like Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. We think he is stupid and that he said stupid things about hiring practices that will get him in big trouble. We don’t think he does this on purpose. We think he’s just a very stupid and morally bankrupted individual that is severely incompetent as it pertains to fulfilling his job responsibilities.
  9. Tips for buying a new car:
    • Remember you have the power to say NO
    • Trust the test drive over the consumer ratings
    • Don’t be afraid to haggle/beware of the Costco matching program dynamics
    • Go back to the well if you had a good experience at a dealership – rapport wins in the long run with customer service
    • Drive the car into the ground – don’t upgrade or get a new car for the sake of upgrading a new car
    • Don’t settle for anything you don’t love if buying a new car
  10. The Bi Monthly Pizza Club thinks the Bears should move to Arlington Heights to maximize events in Chicago first like Final Fours and Wresltemanias and Super Bowls. Secondary consideration is it’s a better experience as a Bears fan because gameday at Soldier Field is a real challenge. Some dissent argued that the Chicago Bears need to remain IN CHICAGO, but the dissent is open minded to a better experience that could yield more on-field success for the Chicago Bears. Overall it was an emotional conversation, but our primary swing-point was large scale national events in Chicago that we could experience together.
  11. There are no local construction projects impacting the Bi Monthly Pizza Club on a day-to-day basis that were announced. However it’s worth noting that our two Arlington Heights delegates were absent from the meeting and they’re fair representatives of both 294 and 90 construction zones as well as expanding urban sprawl in downtown Arlington Heights
  12. The Bi Monthly Pizza Club would like to present the following Memorial Day Tips:
    • Stay in your box on the grill and keep it simple: hot dogs, burgers and chicken. If you haven’t smoked a brisket, don’t start this weekend for the whole family. Keep it simple and enjoy the time to yourself outside.
    • Dress warm this year
    • Keep Monday for yourself if you can (but only if you can)
    • Get your big activities in early: preferably Friday if golfing because Saturday will be crazy
    • Spend time around the house
    • Spend one day doing at least 3 hours of yard work and making the house look nice
    • Again – don’t complicate the first big grill weekend of the year and certainly don’t over promise on your grilled meets

These are your meeting notes for May 2025 Bi Monthly Pizza Club.

Next meeting is the 2nd to last Wednesday in the next odd numbered month: July.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and please recommend good suburban pizza places to be included in future BMPC meetings.

  1. This is pure gold. No clue this is what the blog would be about. I thought it would be more about the pizza. Really enjoy the meeting notes. “We think he is stupid” made me spit out my drink. Being an avid griller I 100% agree about this weekend it is almost like on Thanksgiving when idiots fry turkey for the 1st time and start fires. If you don’t grill all year this isn’t weekend to experiment. Looking forward to the next meeting!

  2. The first time someone not from the Chicagoland area sent me a Pope meme I thought the pope content was played out.

Chicken thighs on the grill is the way to go if grilling chicken
