This Could Be A Problem: The Durham Smythe Highlights Are Only 2 Minutes And 10 Seconds Long

This is a good news/bad news situation.

The good news is the Chicago Bears need help at tight end, and they just signed Durham Smythe who is a veteran tight end. So they had a need and they filled it. That’s the good news.

The bad news is the guy’s highlight tape is barely 2-minutes long and the music absolutely BLOWS

It’s mostly just him catching wide open balls that Mike McDaniel schemed up and that makes me really uncomfortable because we don’t have Mike McDaniel scheming anything.

The reality is that we’re bringing him in to run block, allegedly, and he’s supposed to be very good at that. So that’s awesome because the Bears just added two certified hog molly’s to play guard within the last 48 hours. Adding a tough run blocking tight end to the mix only makes things easier come draft day because I want more big boys.

Literally only big boys on draft day. If you don’t play in the trenches then you don’t belong on the Chicago Bears as a rookie next year. It’s plain and simple to me and I would hope the combination of Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson is also that smart.

Speaking of which.

Someone on a TV channel was saying this is what happens when you hire a smart head coach. Or something along the lines of being positive about the Chicago Bears adding offensive line depth this offseason and attributing to Ben Johnson. And I just happen to find that so extremely stupid in so many ways.

Chiefly – why do we need a smart head coach to have a good offensive line? In fact, wouldn’t it be the complete opposite when we had Eberflus? Doesn’t being stupid mean we should get MORE protection for the quarterback?

I hate the narrative building in the NFL. That somehow Ben Johnson’s presence has now magically awaken the common sense realization that we need a decent offensive line?

That’s such a bullshit cop out.

Or maybe it’s true. And maybe the NFL really is wayyyy more stupid than we all realize. Because every Bears fan in the world has been screaming for help up front since John Tait and Olin Kreutz were on the same line. It’s INSANE to me that we could pretend a new head coach now inspires sensible offensive line strategy. Literally insane.

That would be like Joe Maddon coming in day one and telling the media We’re gonna throw more strikes this year.

Ahhhh yes. More strikes, less balls. That Joe Maddon is a real genius.

Get fuckin bent.

If the Bears are good next year it’s because they have better players and hopefully one of them is Durham Smythe.
