I don’t know who needs to hear this but I know it needs to be said.
People need to calm the H down about Ben Johnson being this world beating savior for the Chicago Bears like it’s some personal guarantee. People acting like we won the offseason and the Packers are toast and all of our problems are resolved. All because we hired Chicago Legacy Media’s preferred coach after bombing on every hire since firing Lovie.
A primary source of excitement is the long-standing conditioning we’ve endured towards mediocrity. It’s mostly because we’ve resigned ourselves to being pathetic losers, so any sign of hope is drastically over-amplified. Like how Caleb Williams would win 11 games in his first year. Or how Ryan Pace Poles would build the Bears up for decades and we’d get a new stadium in Arlington Heights. Or that acquiring only skill position players in free agency would work out because our skill guys suck.
There’s so many stupid moments over the last couple years that we ran with because we don’t know what success looks like. It’s embarrassing. And the fact we’re now doing these heavily produced and sponsored Hyundai videos makes me want to puke my guts out.
The title of the above video is Building A Sustained Winner With Ben Johnson.
It’s not…
- Building a Winner
- Trying to build a winner
- Trying to win half our games
- Not being the laughing stock of the NFC
- Ben Johnson is over his head
There’s so many better and more reasonable ways to introduce offseason content without sounding completely out of touch with reality. Somehow though I just can’t expect the Bears to know this for themselves, which is what chaps me the most about all of this.
I’m not saying Ben Johnson won’t be successful or that I don’t think he’s an improvement. I’m not dragging the Bears for hiring him or insulting you for thinking it’s a smart move.
I’m simply thinking we need to hold off on giving him the key to Brandon Johnson’s office in City Hall. Maybe at least let him coach a game or two in the NFL before we hand out postseason awards and lifetime contracts in February.
Is that too much to ask?
Because otherwise I don’t think I can care as much as I need to. Like if the Bears are asking me to BELIEVE that a sustained winner is around the corner then you can pound a pound of sand. I’m just not doing it until you guys give me one single reason to believe in anything other than 5 wins.
Until then, cool it with the promises on YouTubes. I’m too fragile and you’ve been way too shitty.
