Big story yesterday is Craig Counsell and Nico Hoerner getting tossed by MLB umpire Derek Thomas for seemingly nothing.
Official story is that Nico Hoerner said “you’re having a really bad day” and then got immediately run.
Here’s full audio if you want to turn it up:
The whole thing is pretty pathetic for MLB and that’s before we even introduce the fact that he allegedly hates the Cubs

That’s Michael Bolling – who has done in-game entertainment for the Cubs historically. And some stuff for Big Ten Network if I remember correctly.
But for purposes of this blog, he was a baseball player at Lewis University alongside Derek Thomas

And that’s why it’s important to run this back

Maybe Michael’s joking but I don’t think there’s a better explanation for Derek Thomas tossing Nico and Craig so fast

And now you can’t back track. For real.
To say he DEF ISN’T A CUBS FAN right after you say he hated the Cubs doesn’t mean you can deny anything on his behalf now. If you’re telling me it’s a fact he doesn’t like the Cubs and it’s a fact he hates them then I’m inclined to say it’s also a fact he ejected Nico Hoerner for no reason yesterday.
Or maybe the reason is Nico Hoerner embodies the Cubs gritty winning spirit. And Derek Thomas can’t handle it because he probably hated all the Cubs fans in Iowa because he’s a salty loser who failed as both a Division 2 outfielder and pitcher. And now he’s taking it out on our Stanford standout who plays the game the right way?
The whole thing stinks to me and I demand a full investigation from the commissioner’s office. And until it’s complete, I don’t want to see Derek Thomas anywhere near the Chicago Cubs because it’s actually criminal for him to abandon his professional responsibilities to satisfy his own personal grudges.
Just think of the kids that traveled to Detroit to see their favorite player ejected in the 5th inning.
Think of the parents paying $200 face value to sit in the 100 levels and eat a hot dog in the sun.
Think of the people holding Nico Hoerner o1.5 hit parlay cards that just got hosed.
Think of literally anyone but the umpire in this situation and tell me it makes sense.
It doesn’t.
And that’s why I want Derek Thomas investigated.
Until then, I’m free to assume he’s a scumbag who hates the Cubs and deserves the worst.
