Here’s the chart I have been bitching about non stop since I first saw it.

It’s a chart showing you what percentage of revenue is invested in each MLB club.
Towards the very bottom at #26 on the list, you’ll see Tom Ricketts’s Cubs at just 36%… way below the 39% of the historically cheap Cleveland Guardians and 6% behind the comparable Red Sox.
But 6% doesn’t sound like much, right?
What about 6% of $584M?
That’s $35,000,000 and Tom Ricketts refuses to invest in his baseball team. Here’s why all this sucks a fat one
- The cubs are 2nd in MLB with $65M in operating income, which is the cheese from GameDay operations. So after all the expenses of hosting a baseball game, the Cubs are making almost $1M INCOME every time they play at Wrigley. That’s pure profit and Tom Ricketts keeps 100% of it
- Crane Kenney should not still be in charge of the Cubs. It’s disgusting. This is an indictment on his professional character and I hate his guts. He’s the brains behind Wrigley being the most expensive experience in professional sports and the #1 reason Tom Ricketts is a bad owner
- The Chubs are the 4th most valuable franchise in MLB but invest close to the very bottom of franchise values. Why? Because they don’t care about the fan experience because there’s simply so many fans to care about. They only care about paying their own Christmas bonuses which have nothing to do with the playoffs and everything to do with price gouging me through the fucking roof.
- The giants have $150M less in ANNUAL REVENUE and they still have the same/bigger gross payroll than the Cubs
- Tom Ricketts is a liar and a fraud and I think he should sell the team if we’re only spending 36% each year
These are just a couple reasons and I can keep going.
I won’t because I’m in the waiting room of the veterinarian on my phone right now. That would be an inappropriate use of the time and space. Instead I’d rather just emphasize that this graph is complete fucking bullshit and Tom Ricketts doesn’t deserve you or me or any Cubs fans. He just doesn’t. It’s gotten too bad too quickly and I won’t stand for it.
Spend more money or sell the team you fuckin jabroni.
