Wake Up With Condensed Highlights From Last Night’s Win Against The Rangers

Happy Tuesday April 8th and I hope it’s a good one for most of us.

Some notes on today

  • Congratulations to the Florida Gators on the most forgettable National Championship I’ll ever blank on in future conversations.
  • The Cubs play at 6:40 pm against tonight agains the Rangers. It’s Jameson Taillon vs. Patrick Corbin which should make the Cubs heavy favorites in all respects
  • The Cubs have won the opener in all 4 domestic series this season
  • Team OPS of .779 would be 2nd in 2024 behind the World Series Champion LA Dodgers
  • I don’t mean that to say the Cubs are as good as the Dodgers last year, but more as a place of context. That’s how good the Cubs have been offensively to start the season. They’ve been as good as a team with Mookie, Shohei and Freddie hitting 1-2-3.
  • I think that’s going to fall off but it doesn’t appear to be any time soon. And if we can keep playing solid baseball the next 3 weeks, you’re rewarded in May with the following schedule:
  • 13 day games
  • Loaded with cupcakes
  • Easy travel with limited mileage
  • 4 Off Days
  • 12 games against the 3 of the 4 worst clubs in baseball

What else to open our Tuesday?

  • We’re in 1st place 8% of the way into the season and that means nothing. But it could be a lot worse when you consider the schedule and the travel and the weather.
  • I also made it this long without mentioning Kyle Tucker, so quick reminder that he leads the NL in nearly every major category and is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • It feels good, selfishly, to have been so correct about Kyle Tucker when I told you guys this winter he was a top 10 player in the world. I think everyone believes me now.
  • He slumped for the entire duration of spring training so you can be a little cocky about him now. He’s not due for another one until end of the 1st half at the earliest.
  • I still don’t know how I feel about Craig Counsell. Stop me if you’ve heard that one before.
