It’s Masters week here at CarlsBlogs.com and that’s good news because The Masters rocks. So let’s kick things off appropriately: 28 minutes of insight around the golf course with one of the greatest Masters golfers of all time.
One of my life goals is to naturally know all the hole names for Augusta. I don’t want to study and memorize them as much as I want to absorb the knowledge organically through watching closely over a number of years. I’m farther along than when I started but nowhere near the conversion rate necessary to feel good about my Augusta National knowledge.
Some other thoughts:
- I don’t like people who take The Masters overly serious. I’m not coming over for pimento cheese sandwiches so don’t invite me
- I think if you’ve been to Augusta for The Masters then you’re allowed to enjoy it more than people who have not traveled there. Attendance gives you an indefinite advantage in most relationships
- Saturday is more fun to watch than Sunday, but it’s not a better watch. It’s just more fun. Like the 2015 Cubs vs. the 2016 Cubs. Obviously Sunday Masters is the superior watch just like 2016 is the better team. But 2015 and Saturday is more fun because there’s less pressure on the players so you see more aggressive play
- I think The Masters is the best looking sporting event on TV. Next closest would be a baseball game at Wrigley in late June
- Big week for shot tracer which reminds me to write a shot tracer blog because I think it’s the most significant TV-Sports innovation since the yellow first down line
- I like Rory +650 even if it’s 2nd best odds. You can smell it in the air. You can feel it. Rory’s about to strike for his first green jacket and career grand slam.
- Rory has not won a major championship since 2014 and that’s crazy
- I’m not big on golf highlights and montages nearly as much as I like golf lesson content. Normally that’s flip flopped. Like I don’t care what John Elway has to say about spinning a football as much as I want to see John Elway run naked boot on 3rd and manageable in the AFC playoffs from the 80s. Flip flop that for golf. I want to hear Tom Watson talk wedge play much more than a recap of his greatest wedge shots.
- Gary Player seems like a really nice guy
Those are my masters notes on the week.
I’ll be covering the tournament as I see fit.
In other news:
- Wrigley Opening Day was Friday and I have a lot to say about that.
- Cubs went 2-1 against the Padres and are 7-5 overall through 12 very difficult games against good competition
- Rangers start a 3 game series tonight with Thursday off
- Me and Mahoney are recording a MMCS this morning and releasing the audio only. There’s a lot of good stuff to talk about with the Cubs, especially about how mad we want to be after the Sunday game.
- I had my last lazy weekend of the year before we start cranking up the landscaping and overall it was a pleasant 4 month break from doing shit around the house. But I do miss being outside working on projects and I’m looking forward to improving my landscaping game this spring
- I missed the White Lotus season finale but plan to catch that pretty soon so please no spoilers
- Me and Mahoney are going to the Cubs game Wednesday and I’m really looking forward to that.
I’ll be back at 9:30am with notes on the Padres series.
Thanks for tuning in let’s and have a great week.
