Wake Up With Full Game Highlights From Last Night’s Series Win Against The Rangers

I’m going to the Cubs game today with Mahoney so we’re going to be a little abbreviated on the blog compared to normal days. In advance – my apologies. It’s better for the long term health of the Monday Morning Cubs Show for me and Mahoney to spend a Wednesday in early April crawling around Wrigleyville. So give me this Wednesday and I’ll give you a blog the rest of the Cubs season with approximately 8 podcasts per month. I think that’s a fair trade.

What’s unfair is the quality of the Cubs bullpen right now and that’s not changing any time soon.

Some thoughts on the makeup:

  • Ryan Pressly has to close because they traded for him but Porter Hodge appears to be a much better option to get swing-and-miss. You can’t make the move until Pressly completely falls apart which is unfair because I think Pressly could easily move back to a high leverage guy to give up the closer role before all hell breaks loose
  • Only having 1 lefty really pisses me off even if Lefty/Righty matchups changed substantially with the 3-batter minimum rule. It still feels negligent to only have 1 lefty
  • Julian Mayweather needs to get his shit together because this is it in his professional career. It took forever to climb out of the minors and now you finally have a regular job in your early 30’s. You have no education. No other work experience. No reason to cough up this opportunity and really no excuse to not locate a fastball. So please stop being a huge California pussy and start acting like you belong here. Thank you.
  • Colin Rea got work the other day and it was nice to know he’s not face down in the Cal-Sag river somewhere rotting
  • Brade Keller needs more work and he needed it yesterday

Overall we need to get a checkbook for David Robertson – also yesterday.

And I know things are good right now but they’re guaranteed to slow down and/or fall apart for at least 10 straight games at some point in the first half. So don’t get cocky just because we’re scoring runs without the long ball. You should be more concerned that we’re not hitting homeruns than you are happy to know we can manufacture runs elsewhere. I would rather be good at both if that’s a choice much how I would rather insulate the team with good bullpen arms vs. trash puke pussies.

Does that make sense?

Either way we’re 9-5 and momentum is high. The team looks healthy and explosive and that’s made even better by cold weather and an impossible schedule. So let’s keep it rolling today into off day tomorrow and not waste a chance to sweep a good club.

All Gas…
