Mahoney and I are recording the MMCS a little later this morning. We got a loaded show for everybody after a 5-1 week including a ridiculous PCA performance in the Crosstown. So what better place to start than a quick refresher on how electric PCA is.
Probably worth a deeper discussion but I think PCA is close to the same spectrum as Derrick Rose and Patrick Kane. Obviously he needs to keep it rolling this season but that’s the kinda territory in Chicago Athlete we’re looking at with him. He’s sensational and it’s jaw dropping to watch in real time. You literally feel like you can’t miss a game because of him and we haven’t felt that since Javy took over for Addison Russell at shortstop.
In other news, the starting pitching staff simply doesn’t walk people. That’s why you see more home runs than you’d like but it’s also why you don’t see the Cubs give up many crooked number innings. They limit damage with elite defense and limiting free passes and that all adds up over the course of 162.
Other stuff on todays agenda includes:
- Matt Shaw – is he playing this week?
- Moises Ballesteros debut and next steps when Happ comes off IL
- 26-man predictions … Vidal Brujan/Nicky Lopez/Jon Berti
- Schedule this week
- Jack Reacher filming at Wrigley and maybe Mahoney has a Fever Pitch sequel idea according to an outline he sent me last night
- I think the Cubs should trade for Zac Gallen
I’ve got important family business this morning for Sterk Family Farms so we’re recording MMCS a little later today. It will be out around lunch time. Tell a friend.
In the interim, I have an idea about the 2025 Cubs compared to the 2016 Cubs that I want to explore.
I think the 2025 Cubs are giving me a more fun/enjoyable regular season and I think it’s because:
- Expectations
- Scheduling – playing more than just the Pirates and Brewers and Reds etc.
- PCA out of nowhere
- Feels like a local team
Another good topic is Joe Maddon vs. Craig Counsell. I’ll leave that to twitter.
For now enjoy some PCA defensive discussion. This is really good shit.
Let’s have a nice Monday
