Watch the crowd at 0:11 seconds and tell me Kendrick Lamar gave a good halftime performance this weekend. For real. Take just 3 minutes of your life to experience the single most amped up crowd in the history of live music.
And I’m not saying Rage Against The Machine is deserving of next year’s super bowl halftime show as much as I just think the Kendrick Lamar show sucked major balls. So in the spirit of good performances, I wanted to start Wednesday with what I believe is the most intense and rowdy thing I know. And that’s the Battle of Mexico City by Rage Against the Machine.
Some interesting things about the performance:
- The show is from 23 years ago and they’ve performed less than 100 total times since
- The concert was turned into a vinyl for record store day during COVID because Rage had to postpone their first domestic tour in over a decade
- Tom Morello cut Bullet in the Head from the official record release because he allegedly fucked up the solo so bad, which makes me think slightly differently of Tom Morello if we’re being dead honest
- I saw Rage at the United Center in 2022 with my older brother Kevin. We moshed with the diehards and it changed my life
Overall I think it’s one of the most intense and insane shows I’ve ever seen. They open with Testify which is why you’re getting Testify.
So please enjoy and let’s give today an absolute beating.
