I hope you have a nice Wednesday.
That’s Alex Valentin from Texas State – home of Paul Goldschmidt. And he’s an absolute fucking looney bin to the highest degree and a good reminder that fringe college baseball has some of the best characters in all of sport.
I know people love football players because they’re team-first. And I know people love hockey players because they’re whacky and wholesome. But marginal division-1 college baseball players are filled with so much more character and drive. There’s way more emotional and ego issues that go unresolved only to manifest themselves in the late innings of a midweek matchup against rival Texas A&M. The way he stormed off the mound on that 1-1 fastball simply can’t be replicated. Like celebrating a good blue-line to blue-line pass.
Anyways Alex pitched to a 5.87 ERA last year over 9 starts as a freshman at Texas State. He then summered at the Cape Cod League which is pretty lucky for an undersized lefty 6-ERA from Texas State. And now it appears he’s just getting back on the mound as last night was his 2nd appearance on the season. He pitched 4.2 innings giving up 1 ER and striking out 5 as Texas State held off A&M by a score of 7-3. So all good stuff from the crazy lefty which brings me to this.
What do you care about so much that would get you to act like that?
I don’t know either but I think it’s a good question to ask yourself.
Have a nice Wednesday.
