It was Brian Urlacher’s birthday yesterday and I meant to blog about it but got caught up in Memorial Day Festivities so we’re kicking off today (Tuesday) with a Brian Urlacher blog. And obviously that means some career highlights to start:
Interesting enough the NFL won’t let me share any of it’s YouTube videos which I think is unique to the NFL’s content sharing laws. Whereas people always complain about MLB but they never enforce their content policies any more. It’s the NFL that’s become the real stickler in that conversation but I digress.
Point is Brian Urlacher is awesome and I think 47 is pretty young all things considered. Still feels like he could go out and give us 10 unassisted with a couple pass break ups and at least one big play. That was the best thing about 54. He had the entire bag in play. Could be a huge sack on 3rd and short or a red zone interception or forcing a fumble on a 1st down conversion. Whatever big play you needed, 54 was there to give it to us.
I played golf with him a couple years ago. Full 18 with a Masters champion no strings attached. And not to name drop but just more for circumstance because Urlacher treated me and Green Jacket the exact same. Maybe he talked a little more shit to me that day. But it was an interesting dynamic and I thought it was unbelievable that he was objectively not moved or impressed with Green Jacket.
Me: Arent you ever gonna say nice shot? He’s been doing this all day
Brian: It’s his fucking job dude
I’m not trying to be that guy name dropping old stories to sound relevant as much as I’m just sharing a unique experience that can validate Brian Urlacher’s competitive and uniquely-friendly nature. That’s the point of the story.
Green Jacket was Bubba Watson.
Some other announcements:
- Monday Morning Cubs Show will be later this morning
- I think I want the Cubs to trade for Zac Gallen
- I don’t like Ben Brown enough to watch him struggle through any more starts especially with how much better Cade Horton has looked in comparison.
- I’m not talking numbers and I’m actually exhausted with how often people talk about numbers in the short term of baseball. Statcast helps to isolate a moment and understand an extended period of data. But to tell me that a guy is throwing 1.5mph harder in two starts before his last 4 starts in road games before 5pm on odd numbered days… you’re missing the point of the data.
- I also have a hard time with people talking about player SLUMPS when they’re hitting .230 for a month and the career average is .253. Makes me wonder what’s a slump and why we’re so quick to say that word
- I’m getting a lot of people upset with me for being unnecessarily hard on Matt Shaw and I just want you guys to know it’s totally worth it
Other things on my mind:
- I fixed my tractor yesterday bringing the annual checklist to:
- oil change
- new battery
- new fuse
- rotate blades
- spray attachment
- bag attachment
- carry attachment
- I power wased the sidewalk yesterday and I’m feeling it in my back not that anyone reading this gives a fuck about my back
- A man died from a bee attack in Texas while riding his tractor over an underground nest. He then ran inside his car and trapped himself in with the bees that followed him where he was overcome with stings. I went through the same thing last year but luckily didn’t enclose myself in a car and die, which reminds me: I need to do a walk through the property and look for underground nests before I cut the grass this week
- Please subscribe to the Monday Morning Cubs Show and leave a decent review
