Wake Up With The Good Cubs vs. Red Sox Highlights

Good Morning My Friends!

Cubs laid an egg yesterday and that’s going to happen every now and then. The good things are:

  • We took 2 of 3
  • We’re in 1st place (tied)
  • We lead MLB in run differential
  • We have massive room for improvement on starting pitching
  • We have massive room for improvement in bullpen
  • We’ve won 4 of our last 5
  • We have the easiest schedule remaining in MLB

The Brewers are good. They’re coming and I don’t want to ignore them but at the same time I don’t want to talk about them too much. In that spirit, I’ll put together some research for today’s Monday Morning Cubs show and keep it tight on the Brewers. I want to respect them without getting anyone to freak out.

Which brings me to my next point.

We’re a great baseball team with phenomenal leadership up and down the board. So take a deep breath and try to enjoy the moment.

Some other stuff on my mind as we get going into the week:

  • 6 more games against American League teams and I don’t like how MLB is diluting the inherent competition between National and American Leagues. Small argument but I’m feeling it when we play 18 of 21 straight against AL teams. That just feels weird.
  • I randomly bumped in Justin Steele the other day and he wanted me to tell you guys he’s doing great. Big smiles after closing on a gorgeous Gulf Front property in Mississippi and a lot of time with family during rehab process catching crabs and going fishing. So that’s nice and I can’t wait to see his bounce back next year. 20 wins and a sub 2.50 ERA. I mean it.
  • Wins are more important than you think for a reason I will explain on the Monday Morning Cubs Show with Mahoney
  • On that topic, we got a great mailbag last night on Twitter. Thanks to all who participated. We’re recording the show in 2 hours and then I’ll edit and post it shortly after.
  • The Bi Monthly Pizza Club is meeting again this week. I will compile meeting notes and publish afterwards. Topics include public vs. private education, home service providers, the Chicago Bears first 5 games and probably the Epstein Client List although I need to get that approved from subcommittee first. More on this later.

For now please have a great day and remember the Cubs are very good. Don’t be salty because of 1 game and certainly don’t start panicking because the Brewers haven’t lost since Independence Day.

Finally, some programming notes for the blog:

  • I’m going to write about 2-3 things today not including this blog. This blog is selfishly just for me to get up and jot thoughts down like a diary. Most Wake Up Blogs serve that purpose. I like it because it keeps me on schedule and the wheels turning. But after that I want to start writing more quality and less quantity. So I’m going to try that this week with the explicit purpose of trying to find better balance in the blog. Especially as other projects in life start to occupy more time and space in this next chapter, I want the blog to fit more sensibly. More personal stuff. More stories and educated opinions and stuff I’m comfortable getting passionate about. That’s where the best writing occurs and that’s my focus going into football season.
  • Who knows
  • Best you can do is try
  • Worst you can do is not

Have a great week and Let’s Go Cubs.

  1. Love ya Carl, glad to see more of your writing. Boston guy here but if I could have a second sports city to fall back on it’d be Chicago. Love you fandom
