Wake Up With The NL Central Standings

That looks so nice with the Cubs in first place and the Cardinals in 4th place. Especially with how hard the schedule has been to open the year.

Specifically:

And as we type this today, we’re in 1st place with an off day while the Brewers kick off a 10 day road trip that ends with the Cubs coming to Milwaukee to start May.

That’s a lot to follow so let me better summarize by saying it should only get better for the Chicago Cubs provided we’re healthy and we can catch the fuckin ball. If we can do that, we should be okay.

Here’s some other programming notes as we kick off this beautiful Monday April 21st:

  • I hope everyone had a nice Easter with family. If you didn’t then I’m sorry and I won’t spend this time to tell you how much I enjoyed a 16 pound virginia baked honey ham wrom Wittingham Meats at 127th and Pulaski.
  • It was such a good ham
  • Cubs lose yesterday but win the weekend and that will always take precedence
  • I’m still a little mad/confused/salty we gave up 10 runs on Friday in a 7-1 home game to take a 1-0 series lead against Corbin Burnes. I know the wind’s blowing out and the bullpen sucks and blah blah blah. But we can’t make excuses every time something goes south and that might conflict with Craig Counsell’s style.
  • Michael Busch was 6-12 with 2xbh this weekend. He looks sensational in the clean up spot, which is the complete opposite of what I was preaching about to start the season. I don’t know if anyone has been more wrong about anything than I was about Michael Busch as an MLB 4-hitter. At least that’s how it looks right now.
  • Ben Brown took a big step forward from his LA start in that he didn’t completely bomb. I hate 100 pitches in 4 innings and I hate 4 walks with 6 strikeouts in a short start. I hate wasting pitches and being inefficient, which he does all the time. But most important is that he survived the start to build some momentum. He needed to at least be competitive enough to give the Cubs a chance to win and we did. So next time out against the Phillies, I have extremely high expectations that he dials it up a notch only to come back down the next time. This is how you watch Ben Brown pitch.
  • The Cubs ahve only played 8 of their 23 games at home and I find that to be exhaustive bullshit
  • For all the scheduling complaints, it would be a disastrous nightmare for the Cubs to play .500 or worse ball in May against the White Sox and Marlins and Pirates etc. We’ve talked a lot of shit about that part of the schedule so hopefully we back it up when the time comes.
  • Justin Steele had a successful surgery last week. That’s important to me as a human being. I hope he gets better soon.
  • We’re off today then two with the Dodgers on Tuesday & Wednesday. Then we’re off again on Thursday before 3 more with the Phillies.
  • That’s 3 total off days on an 8 game homestand and I think that’s the most I can ever remember. Usually you get one and sometimes you get zero. But to get 3? We need to take advantage these next 5 games – especially with bullpen arms at full capacity.
  • Most likely results (in order):
    • 3-2
    • 4-1
    • 2-3
    • 5-0
    • 1-4
    • 0-5

Some other programming notes:

  • Monday Morning Cubs Show will be out this morning. We are about to hit record and it might be the best show we’ve ever worked on. I can just feel it.
  • I’m going to Miami next week with my old lady for business. More on that later but if you hear me talk about Miami Carl in the next day or two, that’s why. I’m feeling really sexy and spicy.
  • I’m missing a bunch of stuff that’s slowing me down in the Wake Up but I’ll come around on it later today. I can’t remember. Groggy weekend starting with approximately 47 cold ones on Friday in Wrigley with one of my closest buddies. Into a heavy yard work Saturday followed by Easter Sunday extravaganza with the family? Give me some grace here guys and I’ll reward you with average content.
