Wake Up With The Vernon Davis Episode Of Sports Science (RIP John Brenkus)

John Brenkus was a legend in sports media and basically invented his own proprietary show in Sports Science. Really sad and terrible news to find out he passed away and had struggled with mental health for a long time. Just so sad. I lost a close friend a couple years ago and I think about him just about every day since. Fucking blows.

Out of respect I wanted to run back a Sport Science featuring the greatest athletic freak I believe of the Sports Science era in Vernon Davis. Before the super tight end era really exploded, he was the bad boy on the block and the perfect specimen to undergo the close examination of Brenkus.

Back when ESPN was a solid station worth hours of your daily attention. This was basically peak programming and the last great frontier of ESPN before embracing debate.

Anyways RIP to John Brenkus.

He was legit.

Programming Notes for Monday June 2nd:

  • Blog schedule is going every 2 hours today starting at 8am and I think going to 8pm with the Cubs off. I’m still tweaking the blog schedule to find the right volume for quality and it’s an evolving discussion
  • New episode of the Monday Morning Cubs Show with Mahoney will be out later today. We’re recording this morning and then I’ll upload the audio immediately after.
  • Cubs are 14-4 since finishing “the hardest part of their schedule” and that’s incredible
  • I think the goal for this 9 game road trip is 5-4 and we can expect that to be ugly I think just based on how good they’ve been for the last couple weeks. It’s in my nature to just assume they’re going to hit a wall because it still doesn’t feel real to be this good
  • I found a nice adjustment in my back swing over the weekend that’s helped me straighten out off the tee and I literally can’t stop thinking about it
  • We’re starting a huge production run this week for Sterk Family Farms to add new products and reload inventory. To make room we held a spring cleaning sale this weekend and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the support and helping us grow the family business. It’s been an amazing experience and we’re beyond grateful for our customers. You guys rock.
  • Enjoy the off day
  • I’m going to eat a pastrami sandwich for lunch on toasted sourdough with muenster and mustard
