The Cubs played a baseball game tonight and they won. I drank an espresso at 8pm to stay up for it and now I’m wired. So everybody gets a game notes blog and hopefully I calm down in time for at least 6 hours.
I’ve been focusing on my sleep a lot lately. More than usual and it’s starting to yield some results. Not where I want to be but I’m improving every day and that’s exactly what I want to see from this Cubs team.
Tonight deflated a lot of hesitation from the Tokyo trip. Especially because it’s been exactly 18 days since the Cubs last won a game – spring training or regular season. They’ve looked like complete ass since traveling home and I think everyone was nervous going into tonight against Zac Gallen.
Lucky for everybody, no need to worry. We got multiple crooked numbers in a cornucopia of offensive production:

Some other observations:
- Everyone got a hit except for Dansby Swanson and that’s awesome
- Miguel Amaya has been a completely different player since July 4th weekend last year when he was slugging .259. Since then he’s hitting .285 with an .800 OPS and a .470 slug which is basically Wilson Contreras career numbers with the Cubs
- 4 players had multiple hits including Michael Barf Busch
- I like Michael Busch I just hate having him in the cleanup spot because we don’t have a legitimate power threat. He should hit 6 on a World Series caliber roster
- Ian Happ is underrated:
- Taylor needs to clean her phone. Just sayin
- PCA looked so good tonight. He turned on a 98mph fastball with authority. He stole a base and extended an inning and scored a run. He made a number of fluid plays in CF that gave me a lot of comfort. Most significant though was a bloop single that he didn’t dive for. People probably want that extra effort but I love how smart and big league he is to not throw his body at a ball with zero chance of making the play. I hate when players show effort just to show effort. The smart thing to do at all times is the smart thing. And I like PCA is smart enough to not be a reckless hardo like almost every other big league prospect in his talent/shoes/circumstance. That’s good veteran shit right there.
- Welcome back Nico Hoerner… the lineup is much better with you in it
- Dansby with the play of the game
- Matt Shaw is going to be an interesting watch the first month of the season. He’s thrown to the wolves and I don’t think he’s necessarily ready but there’s nobody else and he’s gotta play at some point. So we march on against the world’s best and hope it clicks sooner than later.
- I know Cam Smith got a hit today. Thank you for the reminder.
- Kyle Tucker looks fine. If we don’t extend him I’m preemptively putting myself on probation for crimes not yet committed.
- Kyle Tucker is also DIALED
- Justin Steele wasn’t great and we still won. That’s awesome when you consider that he’s going to give you 25 quality starts this year and tonight wasn’t one of them. Even so you get a W against Gallen? That’s huge.
- Bullpen gave us a real scare tonight even with a multiple run lead. Nate Pearson looked like a real asshole and that bothers me because he throws 100mph with nasty stuff. Just put it over the plate and let your world class defense do some work.
- He’s such a donkey moron righty. We have a number of these Walmart Marmols this year and it’s kinda stressful if we’re being honest
- Porter Hodge looked filthy and that’s huge news because Ryan Pressly throws sloppy poo balls for a righty closer. We need some thunder at the back of the pen and it’s obviously Porter Hodge
- I hate 9pm game times
- Next game is tomorrow at 9pm
- I’ll have a couple blogs tomorrow although it’s typically reserved for volunteering and Sterk Family Farms responsibilities. So don’t expect a full day but I’ll definitely have some follow ups from tonight’s win.
Have a safe evening and Go Cubs.
PS – Go Bulls too.
Sloppy poop balls is perfectly put
PCA is going to be the MVP of this team. So good.
I’m a fan
