This Trailer For The Masters Deserves An Academy Award

I know I just said trailer culture is exhausting but that was before I saw this 2025 Masters trailer. So let me just walk that back real quick and say that some times a golf-related trailers are awesome and this is one of those times.

Also I want to give credit to The Masters for cutting back on their advertising. Not too long ago we were complaining about the number of TV ads in January and February. It was actually kinda weird to see on CBS during an NFL playoff game. The Masters music would trigger an emotional response that the weather is nice outside but it’s actually early February and it’s 9 degrees. People didn’t like that so we complained on social media a lot.

Well turns out The Masters is listening because they basically cut TV adds by 96% by my rough estimates. They’ve done a complete 180 on their advertising strategy and it’s honestly because people were complaining.

The Masters doesn’t like that.

So talk all the shit you want about the exclusivity and their membership policies and overall enforcement attitude. But you can’t argue that The Masters is ultimately for the people.

On the subject of which.

Here’s some personal information i’ve gathered over the years on Augusta National

  • Patrick Reed told me that Masters Champions are allowed to play Augusta National but they need to give at least a 48 hour notice, can’t spend the night and generally aren’t that welcome per se. But it’s ultimately allowed and he can bring a guest. I can’t remember if he’s required to play with a member or if it’s more recommended or if he can play solo. But Masters Champs get playing privileges but it’s kinda awkward and uncomfortable according to a former Masters Champion.
  • Bubba Watson basically confirmed the same thing without being as blunt. And while we’re heavy on the name drops this Tuesday afternoon, I’m shooting you guys as straight as I can… I played a pro am with these guys a couple years ago and ended up at a table with Patrick Reed and some mutual friends. Then played 18 the next day with Bubba and Brian Urlacher. I told you a lot of name dropping. Anyways – long story but I liked Patrick Reed quite a bit because he was extremely self deprecating and overall anti-golf culture. He can’t believe people play the sport recreationally to relax. This game makes me want to kill myself but you’re okay with 87? Delighted actually.
  • My buddy’s like a 6 handicap. Maybe 8. He scores really low. Anyways his dad took him to Augusta a couple years ago and he said the difficulty is super overrated compared to the member conditions. He was expecting it to be a nightmare but the greens aren’t normally cut like we see in tournament and that actually makes for a pretty easy course because it’s super wide off the tee, there’s very little water, the sand is perfect and the greens are huge. So if you get a chance to play it outside of The Masters, you’ll find it’s much easier than portrayed in mainstream media.
  • I got another buddy who played it through his father-in-law. Similar sentiment about the course, but he told me the pro-shop is basically sold at cost. So you want to buy everything because it’s way cheaper than you’d imagine, but the staff frowns upon buying a lot of shit. So it’s psychologically taxing because you don’t want to be judged but you definitely want more than just one polo. Personally I hope this is all on purpose because that would be amazing.
  • Both friends spent the night in the cottages and said it was fine. I have to double check but I believe you only get a twin bed on property. Apparently that’s how Eisenhower liked it after the war.

Anyways the Masters is coming up in a couple weeks and I just wanted to share this trailer because I think it’s outstanding.
